👤 Emoji Neutral

Gendered emoji additions may create confusion regarding which gender each emoji displays as on various platforms. Emoji 4.0 created many new Emoji ZWJ Sequences which request a specifically male or female version of an emoji.

This emoji list is for base characters which do not specify a gender. This does not imply that the characters will display with a gender neutral or gender inclusive appearance on all (or any) platforms, but instead ensures that a specific gender is not chosen.

For example, the 🤦 Person Facepalming character is primarily shown as female, but using the base version of this emoji will let the vendor decide. As such, this will display as a man on iOS, but a man on Android and Windows.

Emojis displayed on this page are limited to those that also have a male and/or female version available. Implicitly neutral (smiley) characters such as Face With Cowboy Hat do not feature on this page, nor do characters that have an implicit appearance such as child, adult, older adult, pregnant woman, and bearded person.

This list can also be used to save characters on Twitter, as these use 1-2 characters in a tweet, while gendered emoji sequences can use up to seven characters.
