When The Journal News puts social momentum to work
When a story reappeared in the “top pages” section of The Journal News’ Chartbeat dashboard after a few days, the editorial team dug into the article’s referring traffic sources to find that the traffic spike was coming from a link shared by a student on Facebook. With this renewed popularity, they put the story back on the homepage—and immediately saw a boost in traffic, increased engagement, and number of social shares. They had found the right audience at the right time.
With a new audience’s attention, and a better understanding of those particular visitors’ interests, they published two follow-up articles in the weeks following. With Chartbeat’s insights the team was able to not only validate decision making in real-time but also inform their long term audience building strategy.
