In response to public criticism and complaint regarding the accuracy and impartiality of its coverage of the Arab-Israeli conflict, which came to a head particularly during the second Intifada, the BBC commissioned both internal and external reviews of its performance.

In October 2011 the BBC commissioned a review of the impartiality of its coverage (excepting the World Service) of the ‘Arab Spring’. The report, by Edward Mortimer, was published in June 2012.
