My first preprint is now up, looking at the pop genomics of herbicide resistance evolution in Amaranthus. This project was a ton of fun to lead with great collaborators in the labs of , & Pat Tranel. Looking forward to getting some feedback!

This is quite a nice article — if you're teaching probability theory, this would be a worthy case study (and include the first few paragraphs of NNT's preprint ).

1 year in, I now know Seattle is fun all year round! No one told me the Space Needle got Xmas lights! Comp Bio ppl who want to move here when they graduate should apply for the Mahan Postdoc fellowship to work with me or any Comp Bio faculty!!

I can’t recommend this garlic broth recipe highly enough. Yes, you can brown an extra head of garlic and it makes it even better. A bit of white miso is delicious in it too.

Me normally: well, having looked at a few meta-analyses, it's safe to conclude vitamin C won't help prevent a cold. Me when my partner is sick with a bad cold: let's see, if I rub these two crystals together while eating whole heads of raw garlic, I definitely won't get sick!

Teachers! Parents! It is legal and perfectly welcome to email scientists asking for a PDF of their paper. Until all papers are free, please RT to make this more widely known. And fyi, scientists don't get the $$ from sales of papers so all it costs us is 1 minute of time!

We have a new paper on bioRxiv today. It’s not a paper I was planning to write during my first semester as a postdoc. (1/n)

I’ve had a super fun time visiting the and labs (as well as many great folks from other groups) at UO! It’s awesome one group of folks can ID most birds and mushrooms and also nerd out about their Vim settings and msprime during the same hike.

Can you imagine this: Sorry R. A. Fisher, your paper introducing likelihood theory cannot be published on because they do not accept undergrad research. Sorry Alfred Sturtevant, cannot publish the first genetic map ever because they do not accept undergrad research.
