SHPE Announces New Chief Operating Officer

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 7,2017)--Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), a national network representing professional engineers in the Hispanic community, today announced the appointment of Dr. Christopher Miguel Wilkie as its new Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff.

Dr. Wilkie brings to the position an extensive background in nonprofit management and an esteemed reputation as a transformational leader. His expertise in nonprofit Governance, Risk, and Compliance will be paramount to his contributions at SHPE.

SHPE also announces the new appointment of Dr. Dora Renaud as Senior Director of Academics and Professional Development. A passionate educator, mentor and advisor, Dr. Renaud has built a strong foundation for teaching and learning, and her published research focuses on professional development for effective leaders.

SHPE Announces New National Board Chair Miguel Alemañy and Welcomes Five New Board Members as of July 1

Los Angeles, Calif., – June 26, 2017 - Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) CEO, Raquel Tamez, announced today that Miguel Alemañy will step up as the new Chair of the National Board of Directors effective July 1. Currently the Director of Worldwide Research & Development for Flavors & Fragrance at Procter & Gamble, Alemañy has been active with SHPE for the past 18 years, and most recently served as the Board Vice Chair.

Alemañy stated, “As a lifetime active member of SHPE, and a passionate supporter of its critical mission in society, I’m honored by this opportunity to serve as Board Chair. By building upon the legacy of my predecessors and with the support of our Board, it is my intention to take the organization to the next level of performance executing our mission. I’m looking forward to working with Raquel and the whole leadership team as we guide SHPE in the coming years.”

2016 National Conference Recap

 

SHPE's national conference is always quite the experience; the 2016 conference certainly lived up to its theme: "Build the Future." The event drew nearly 6,700 attendees - a new record - during four days of interactive programming, professional networking and exciting competitions.  

Among this year's highlights was the debut of SHPE's first Hackathon. Student teams spent 36 hours coding innovative solutions to improve the health monitoring of farmworkers, a population dominated by Latinos. Their work was then donated to open source, inviting further collaboration among the coding community. 

 

Through its comprehensive educational program, the SHPE Conference provided for the unique developmental needs of undergraduate and graduate students, professionals and academic faculty.
