CMYK stands for: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black. They are the four process colors that represent the standard color mode for offset printing. Be sure when creating your print files to check that your color mode is set to CMYK. RGB is usually a default in raster based programs like photoshop. When working in RGB your colors will appear more vibrant. When converting a document from RGB to CMYK you may notice some shifting in color. Color shifts are usually not visible in color photographs; however, rich and solid colors (like a background) can be affected by a color conversion. Most of the time, color shifts are minor and may not be noticeable.

We've learned that by streamlining the prepress process we are able to pass significant savings onto our customers. Our prepress guidelines also let us bypass common pitfalls associated with preparing digital artwork for print such as embedding fonts, and unlinked images. With quality in mind, we request that all files sent for print be in industry standard formats. We request formats that aren't dependent on the application, fonts or other separate design elements used to create the piece. We accept the following file formats:
 

TIF - JPG - PDF - EPS - PSD

We can accept Quark, Pagemaker, Corel Draw, or any similar files by converted them to industry standard graphic formats such as TIF, JPG, or PDF.

There are so many fonts these days its hard to keep track. When saving your files in a vector based program (illustrator, In Design, Quark, Corel Draw) we ask that you outline your fonts. By doing so the text in your file will be converted from live text to a vector image. Do not worry, it will not affect the clarity of your text or affect your design. It ensures that your text will look the same to us as it does on your computer. When fonts are missing text can automatically be converted to default type faces. Large, solid black areas and text over 36 points should use Rich Black to prevent the color looking gray. Rich Black consists of 30% Cyan, 30% Magenta, 30% Yellow, 100% Black. For regular body text, do not use Rich Black. If you use a default black in a design program the black can come out gray or muddy. By converting to rich black you will ensure that your black areas will be rich and bold.

Paper weight is an important factor that needs to be addressed first and foremost. When sending postcards its best to choose a thicker cardstock as opposed to a thinner text weight. The difference between these two types of paper is thickness. Our card stock is weighted by points and our text weight is based on pounds. Want to feel the difference? Print proofs are digital prints used for checking layout and bleed/trim marks. At 1800printing.com we offer print proofs at an extra cost. The proof is not made for checking paper or color. We print all proofs on either 100# text or 12pt card stock. Color can vary from digital proofs to an actual offset printing run. If you are interested in getting a print proof. On a 2 rounded corner business card the upper left and bottom right corners will be rounded. It would be the same for a landscape or portrait layout. If you need specific corner rounded then you can send us the specs and fill out our custom quote form.

We offer 3 types of folding for menus and brochures: half-fold, tri-fold, and accordion fold. There is no extra charge for folding. To ensure that you have the correct measurements for each type of fold, download our easy to use templates. In the template you will see guides to show you where the fold will be so you can be sure to move any element in your design so that it will not lie on the fold.

Grommets are metal rings place on your banner to allow for easy hanging. The number of grommets depends on the size of your banner. You also have the option to choose a pole pocket. A pole pocket is created with an extra amount of vinyl material which is sewn so that it creates a sleeve for you to place a bar or string through so you can hang it. You can also have just straight edges and add tape or even velcro to hang from a surface (we do not supply velcro or tape with your order).
