Admitting that he was smitten by Vice President Leni Robredo’s good looks and “nice legs,” President Duterte yesterday joked about killing her rumored boyfriend so that he could pursue her.
Duterte said there is nothing wrong if he admires Robredo since his marriage with his first wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, had been annulled.
“Pupunta rin ako dito kasi nandito ang Vice President (I will come here because the Vice President is here). Wherever she goes, I will follow. She is a widow and my marriage had been annulled,” the President said in his speech during the commemoration of the third anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban City.
“Ma’am, balita ko may boyfriend ka na (I heard you already have a boyfriend). Do not be offended pero iyong sabi nila, hindi iyon totoo (but I hope what they said is not true)?” Duterte asked Robredo, who was seated along with Cabinet members and local officials on the stage constructed near the mass grave at the Holy Cross Memorial Park.
The Vice President, widow of the late interior and local government secretary Jesse Robredo who died in a plane crash in 2012, is romantically linked to a Quezon City congressman.
“Eh kung totoo iyon, ma’am, may patay na congressman na bago… para mabiyuda ulit (If it’s true, there will be a dead congressman, so you’ll be widowed again),” Duterte said.
Duterte is known for cracking jokes, even on serious matters.
Duterte said he is fond of teasing Robredo during Cabinet meetings.
“Si Ma’am Leni, binibiro ko talaga ‘yan (I always tease her). You know when the talks get boring and the argument starts, I always inject a joke…” he said.
Duterte admitted that he admires Robredo’s beautiful legs.
