The renewable energy sector has been the fastest growing domestic energy sector over the past decade. In fact, renewable energy sources – biomass and biofuels, geothermal energy, solar power, wind energy and hydropower – provided a record 12.25 percent of U.S. energy production during the first six months of 2011, and exceeded nuclear power production during that year’s first quarter.

NEWS OF NOTE

 

  As distributed solar has expanded across the U.S., there have been some concerns raised by utility companies and other stakeholders about cost-shifting between solar and non-solar customers. To address some of these concerns, the DOE's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) released an analysis that shows the minimal impact that distributed solar is currently having on electricity prices, and that this trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

 This week the Center for the New Energy Economy (CNEE) released a "how-to" resource for state policymakers titled The Clean Energy Policy Guide for State Legislatures . The policy guide is available for free on iTunes, and looks to serve policymakers that are dealing with issues pertaining to energy efficiency, infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, financing and emissions.
