A Missouri man has been accused of convincing a woman to buy him a Lamborghini and a Corvette as part of an online dating swindle that stretched across several states and encompassed at least three women, according to authorities. 28-year-old Timothy Rossell was arrested on October 13, and has been charged with one count of impersonating a federal officer and four counts of identity theft. According to police, Rossell was engaged in a con in which he would convince women to buy cars for him, drive them for a time, and then secretly sell them while telling the women the vehicles were stolen, KMOV.com reports.
Donald Trump’s tumultuous week was skewered mercilessly on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” on NBC. And the Republican nominee took to Twitter on Sunday morning to offer his review. “Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me,” Trump tweeted. “Time
Iraqi security forces have launched a final push to retake Mosul from the Islamic State group, which seized the country's second city more than two years ago. Iraqi forces will fight their way to Mosul and then seek to encircle the city before launching an attack inside it -- tactics they have used in operations to retake other IS-held cities including Ramadi and Tikrit. The eventual assault into Mosul will likely be led by Iraq's elite counter-terrorism service, which has spearheaded most operations against the jihadists.
Luxury car buyers can’t seem to get enough of the Tesla Model S—and neither, apparently, can the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD plans to convert a Tesla Model S into a fully-fledged patrol car and set it loose on the mean streets of Los Angeles, as part of a plan that aims to replace traditional cop vehicles with electric police cruisers in the next five years. Back in May, the LAPD announced that it had borrowed a pair of Model S P85 Ds to see how the EVs could handle the demands of life on the beat.
A Connecticut teen was fatally struck by a fire department SUV early Sunday and authorities are investigating after the firefighter behind the wheel allegedly continued driving. State police said Jeffny Pally, 19, was sitting on the ground with her back against a bay door at the UConn campus fire station when the door opened. An SUV reportedly driven by shift commander Dana Barrow Jr., 60, then emerged, authorities say.
China launched a pair of astronauts into space Monday on a mission to dock with an experimental space station and remain aboard for 30 days in preparation for the start of operations by a full-bore facility six years from now. The Shenzhou 11 mission took off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on the edge of the Gobi Desert in northern China at 7:30 a.m. (2330 GMT) aboard a Long March-2F carrier rocket. BANGKOK (AP) — A 96-year-old confidant of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej has been formally confirmed as the regent to manage the throne in the place of the crown prince and heir apparent, but it wasn't clear how long the caretaker arrangement would last.
By Aleksandar Vasovic PODGORICA (Reuters) - The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) was in the lead in Montenegro's parliamentary vote on Sunday but looked short of winning a majority, leaving pro-Western Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic needing a coalition to extend his 24 years in power. Djukanovic said the election was a historic choice between closer ties with NATO or with Russia, but voters were divided according to a partial count suggesting he would win 36 seats in the 81-seat parliament, five short of a majority. Montenegrins turned out in record numbers to vote on Sunday amidst allegations of media and party websites being hacked, polling station violence and the arrest of a group of Serbs accused of plotting armed attacks on state institutions and officials.
Petty’s Garage, the custom car-building arm owned by NASCAR there-will-never-be-another-legend-like-him Richard Petty, has been modifying cars for a lot longer than you think, with the latest models being Ford Mustangs, appropriate since Petty’s two NASCAR Sprint Cup entries are Ford Fusions. Or that’s what they say on the front: If you are savvy enough to find your way to TheDrive.com, you know that the parts shared by the Fusion and NASCAR Fords are, shall we say, minimal. The car, white with a Petty Blue stripe down the center, started as a Ford Mustang GT, with its 5.0-liter V-8 mated to a supercharger – the Pettys-Garage.com site says it’s a TVS 2300 blower from Magnuson, but paperwork in the glove compartment we probably weren’t supposed to be snooping around in seemed to suggest it might have come straight from Art Whipple.
China will launch a manned space mission on Monday, official media said, as the Asian giant works towards setting up its own space station. Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong will be on board the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft as it blasts off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi desert, the official Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. Beijing is pouring billions into its space programme in a bid to catch up with the US and Europe.
Dramatic videos of deadly law enforcement encounters and the absence of reliable data about how often police use force contribute to a regrettable narrative that "biased police are killing black men at epidemic rates," FBI Director James Comey said Sunday. Videos of fatal police encounters that capture the public's attention and are shared broadly across the internet can fuel the perception that "something terrible is being done by the police," even if the data aren't there to back it up, Comey said, speaking in San Diego during a gathering of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. "It is a narrative driven by video images of real and gut-wrenching misconduct, by images of possible misconduct, by images of perceived misconduct," Comey said.
Today on Drive Wire: A new report suggests Apple has ditched its plans to build its own car for the time being, instead choosing to concentrate on developing technology for self-driving vehicles. According to Bloomberg, the Apple project known as Project Titan has been significantly ramped down, with hundreds of employees connected to the project being reassigned or leaving the company over the last few months. Management and leadership problems were an issue with the project, according to Bloomberg.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s nuclear saber-rattling and military brinksmanship have upended the rules that long governed relations between Moscow and Washington, presenting the United States with a dangerous dilemma. The next U.S. president will inherit an increasingly fraught relationship with Russia in which Washington’s attempts to deter Putin have mostly failed. Moscow’s decision this month to pull out of a landmark agreement on disposing tons of weapons-grade plutonium, coupled with reports last week that Russia deployed new nuclear-capable missiles to Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea, underscore how Putin is flexing Russia’s power in new and often unpredictable ways.

Pope Francis canonized Argentina’s “gaucho priest” Sunday, bestowing sainthood on the poncho-wearing pastor with whom the first Argentine pope shares many similarities, from a taste for mate tea to a dedication to bringing the ministry to even the most isolated people. Also made into saints were two Italian priests, Lodovico Pavoni and Alfonso Maria Fusco, French martyr Salomone Leclercq, French nun Elisabeth of the Trinity, Spanish bishop Manuel Gonzalez Garcia and Mexican layman Jose Sanchez del Rio.
Said the catalog: “This is the original 1976 AMC Pacer used in the iconic film ‘Wayne's World.’ Modifications made for the film included baby blue paint over the original yellow exterior and brown interior, tow hooks welded to the front subframe, ¼” steel plates welded to the rocker panels for camera supports, heater and air conditioning were removed, rear wheelhouses were modified to fit speaker boxes, a hole was drilled in the roof for the famous licorice dispenser, flame decals were added, and components were removed from the inner dash to accommodate the cup dispenser and a door mechanism above the sealed-off glove box. “The studio also went with a purposely mismatched wheel combination of chrome spoked wheels in the rear and factory hubcaps in the front.
By Lesley Wroughton LONDON (Reuters) - The United States and Britain called on Sunday for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Yemen to end violence between Iran-backed Houthis and the government, which is supported by Gulf states. A Saudi-led campaign in Yemen has come under heavy criticism since an air strike on a funeral gathering in the Yemeni capital Sanaa that killed 140 people according to a United Nations' estimate and 82 according to the Houthis. On Saturday, a U.S. admiral said a destroyer had again been targeted in the Red Sea in an apparent failed missile attack launched from the coast of Yemen.
If Batman had a warship, it would be the USS Zumwalt. Ray Mabus, secretary of the Navy, called the Zumwalt "a quantum leap" for Navy ships. "It's the first of a kind that's leading the way for new classes of ships, new capabilities that are in ships, new systems that we can use and it just expands the things we can do and the ways we do it," Mabus said after the ceremony.
A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea on Monday, officials said, but no Pacific-wide tsunami warning was issued with little damage expected due to the remote location. The tremor was estimated at a depth of 35 kilometres (22 miles) on New Britain island, 418 kilometres northeast of the capital Port Moresby, the United States Geological Survey said. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center ruled out a widespread tsunami.
A Florida man who shot at George Zimmerman from his moving vehicle was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday, but not before his wife gave the judge a piece of her mind. Prosecutors argued Matthew Apperson, 38, opened fire on Zimmerman while they both drove down a busy street in Seminole County last year. Authorities have "given George Zimmerman a golden ticket to go out and do whatever he wants to do," Apperson's wife, Lisa Apperson, told Nelson.
Samsung last week officially discontinued the Galaxy Note 7 following reports that even replacement units were prone to catching fire and exploding. Compounding matters is the fact that Samsung still hasn't been able to pinpoint the root cause of the problem, an issue which naturally has the higher-ups at the Korean-based tech giant worried.
None of this matters anymore, because the result of the 2016 presidential election was decided on Sunday afternoon, and we have news that will make Democrats happy: Hillary Clinton will defeat Donald Trump on Election Day. The Washington Redskins beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 27-20. This dictates that the result of the team’s final home game pre-election determines its outcome – when Washington wins, the incumbent party wins, but when the Redskins lose, the non-incumbent party takes the White House.
Voters on Nov. 8 will decide ballot measures in five states that could change the minimum wage. By Angus McDowall and Tom Perry BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian rebels said they captured the village of Dabiq from Islamic State on Sunday, forcing the jihadist group from a stronghold where it had promised to fight a final, apocalyptic battle with the West. Its defeat at Dabiq, long a mainstay of Islamic State's propaganda, underscores the group's declining fortunes this year as it suffered battlefield defeats in Syria and Iraq and lost a string of senior leaders in targeted air strikes. The rebels, backed by Turkish tanks and warplanes, took Dabiq and neighboring Soran after clashes on Sunday morning, said Ahmed Osman, head of the Sultan Murad group, one of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions involved in the fighting.
