Your Android browser should do more than just display web pages. Opera for Android now has a built-in news feed that helps you find more content you’ll love - it also saves data by blocking ads and compressing video and images.
Top features
Top features
● Smart news feed: Swipe through a range of news channels within the browser, subscribe to your favorite channels, and save stories to read later.
● Sleek new look: Our new, lightweight design makes it easier to find what you need and do what you came online to do.
● Block ads: Opera’s integrated ad blocker helps your pages load faster and saves your data for the content you’re actually interested in.
● Compress videos: Watch more videos on your mobile device while using less data. Turn on video compression in the data savings settings to prevent videos from stalling.
● Add to home screen: Add any website directly to your device's home screen to access it even faster. Sites like Facebook can even send you push notifications, just like an app.
Other highlights
● Save data: Switch to data-savings mode to load pages faster than ever on slow networks. Powered by our famous compression technology, the Opera browser works hard to save loads of data without breaking your browsing experience.
● Browse privately: Use private tabs to go incognito anywhere on the internet without leaving a trace on your device.
● Read comfortably on any screen: With Opera, you can force zoom on any page, making it easier to read. We even make sure the text fits nicely on your screen with automatic text wrap.

Since the last update - Big complaint since the last update - now every time I navigate away from a page (to check text, for example) I get booted back to the top of page I was on. It's not a deal breaker, I can scroll down and find my place again, but it is a pain in the butt, esp if you have a lot of texts or emails and need to navigate away from the browser often. It's still a smooth browser, though I liked it better before it was made to work almost exactly like chrome.

I love it Quick, and very intuitive with features I actually like and use. UPDATE UPDATE: I still enjoy the browser but after this latest update I get soccer/English football news with no way of getting rid of it. Its relentless. What have I ever done to make opera think I care about Manchester united or any soccer?! I used the edit feature to no avail. Being as there's no way to contact them I'm hoping they see this and can instruct me on how to correct this. Or I'll have to delete it.

From good to awful Why make all these changes? The old version worked perfectly for my use. Why does opening a new tab default to making a search. I prefer accessing the speed dial. Also, there is now less space on top to display tabs in tablet mode. I liked the cleaner, minimalistic look of the older version. When you make drastic changes like these, at least include the option to make the app look and behave like the old version. I have been using this browser for about 6 years, but will now look for alternatives.

Great browser but one flaw They're just the best at making it really good. Use it on my phone and tablet. Would get five stars but they have changed the usage of the hoe button and I instead of bringing the tab you're on back to the homescreen when you hit home, it leaves open the old tab and takes you back to the home screen, leaving you with a lot of extra tabs you don't want or need in the background. And when you open a new tab you no longer get the speed dial. That was one of the best features! Please fix!

Very Nice Browser! Raising from 1 Star: Love the Bookmark Organization & Sync abilities! Displays pages with no problem. Add Shortcuts to Home Screen. It has a lot of nice features, including being able to see other Speed Dials on other devices. Shortcomings? Everything is just "blah", washed out white. A darker theme would be nice. Also, pages could load faster (and I don't mean by lowering quality).

Reader mode is Brilliant!!! Private mode is not private though Opera has gone back to my top browser.... The reader mode for websites is excellent for getting rid of all the ads and nonsense news sites normally come with... also quicker and easier to use than Firefox or the holy grail for advertisement companies: Chrome. However...Private mode is in no way private. I checked my yahoo email in private mode and it remembered the yahoo web address to it and made a Yahoo folder on the root memory for the cache and cookies!

Hey Gary, thanks for checking out the new version and for the feedback. The current setup for the news section is based on most popular articles but I understand we're not all footy fans! We'll be bringing more customisation options in the future as we develop it :) keep me up to date with your experience /Ruth From good to awful Why make all these changes? Hey Vajrashura, thanks for trying the new update, sorry to hear it wasn't to your liking. I'm passing on your comments to the teams now but hope you still enjoy using the browser. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Please put speed dial back on new tabs... Way to ruin everything... Refresh a page, and close a tab is on left side... must be nice for lefthand people. I'm constantly closing tabs I want to look at. Would have thought the Opera devs, had learned by now that changing something perfect is a bonehead move...

Hey Bendik, thanks for taking the time to give us a review. Sorry the new interface has been a pain for you. We're taking in the feedback and will be bringing more updates as soon as we can /Ruth Was good. Now ok Refresh button is harder to get with huge phone. Background running takes more ram. Slower overall. Some mobile site don't show as before (ie fb). New tab should be at the end, just like all the other browser. Please note that all this is minor. The browser is OK, but it was better.
It's good when it works Switched to Opera from Chrome about 6 months ago and was blown away with speed, reliability and ease of use. For about a month now, Opera keeps freezing, eats up resources, stalls my phone. The latest update hasn't changed this. Will give it another month and will probably switch to another browser....
Why? Tthis was a great browser until the last couple of updates. New tab goes to search with no option of entering a link? Offline pages removed from speed dial and on!y 1 version of the page now kept? That was one of my main reasons for using Opera. You are ruining what was one of the best. Why?
Fastest browser yet. I used IE, chrome, edge, and few other droid browsers for years, until I took a second look at opera. The ad blocker and built in VPN, plus the fact that it's super fast made me download Opera on all my windows devices, my tablets, and phones. Well done... well done! All problems solved!
Brilliant This browser is back to being what it used to be, Excellent! All issues seem to have been addressed and ironed out. In my opinion, It is very stable and fast. Private mode browsing is now available. This browser has become my default as the interface suits me. Thanks Opera. - London - UK.
Opera December 30, 2016
Thanks for checking out the new version and for your 5 stars :) /Ruth What have you done? This WAS an awesome browser. The new updates make it a different browser all together, am I even using Opera? I thought my browser had gotten hijacked! You messed up the desktop version years ago and just did the same with Android, wtg. I had even converted a few of my friends and family to use Opera. Seriously guys, you messed up EVERYTHING. Bye Opera, too many years of screwing things up.
Update ruined it The forced opera home page tab that doesn't close is the most moronic idea of a feature ever. Trying to close a tab by clicking the home button as found in the previous versions instead now leaves that tab you're on still open and takes you back to the home opera page, which now you will CONSTANTLY be always having to find yourself with 5-7 tabs open, hogging resources. Also, Tabs don't open in the correct order. New update ruined this browser
The UI is sleek and nice. But why take away the speed dial when i open a new page? The red Opera background is too loud,I should be able to customise myself. I simply don't know why the features of Opera mini and Opera are not just harmonised. And why can't you have saved sing-in to websites? hmmm
update ruined it The latest update kinda ruined the experience. They added the new "home" page which creates new tabs at the beggining, but links from other apps open new tabs at the end, creating a mess. The "web search" feature now loads the search in the current tab rather than in a new one. Pages that used to render correctly under the "desktop" emulation now dont. I also get lag spikes when switching tabs. On the other hand I don't see the upside of updating!
Please do better I don't know if its the update but the toolbar is blocking everything at the top of the page..... i cant see bank info of nothing for that matter that's at top of page... please do a little better..... like the app but im going to use my other internet but i will be back when i can see everything im doing without any problems.
Hello opera team I've been a user of opera for a long time. It's really fast and nice. But I want you to add a feature which can enable custom text size. My eyes isn't very good and the text size on the web are too small. And Please hide status bar in full screen like opera mini . Thank you!!!
Crashes on off road mode As it says on the title. My phone is the LG F6 Android OS v 4.1.xx on MetroPCS. Also, Wtf are you guys doing? Drop chromium on desktop and go back to Presto. Your current Desktop browser is garbage. I used to be an Opera dude because it was Opera, not Chrome. I switched to Firefox on Ubuntu 14.04.
Crash upon opening synced tab I updated and it lost all my tabs. They are not even in History. Do we have to remember to manually backup our open tabs before every update now? Be careful! Also, it crashes upon opening a synced tab, but this also happened in previous versions. Edit: the last update correctly kept my open tabs, but still crashes when I open a synced tab.
Opera December 30, 2016
Thanks for the update Andrés. We're still investigating the sync tag crash you had. To help us do so please can you go to Report a Problem in the settings menu so we make sure we've not missed anything /Ruth Terrible Used for years on everything. Uninstalling on all my machines now. You completely ruined this browser. Why do you force crap updates on users. We should have the option of not updating. Everyone do yourself a favor and dont waste your time with this app. Just about any browser out there beats this one now. Check your water opera, there may be lead in it.
Disappointing Really laggy and hangs often since last few updates. Many sites display messed up and links often open to mobile pages even when set to desktop. The older version was much better. Maybe I can find an older version and just never update. Or maybe a new browser. Sad really.
Too slow, and hangs frequently. The new version hangs frequently, tabs either don't exit or don't appear unless I rotate my tablet, new layout uses too much empty space requiring more scrolling. Latest version is even worse. Tabs hang, remember old titles, disappear. I've frequently had to power cycke my galaxy note tablet to recover.
Credit where it's due Freezing from several prior versions resolved with this update. Glad to see the Opera team got that resolved, which was really my one and only complaint about this browser. It's now, once again, Awesome! Would love a dark theme/option but that's more farkle than function. The redesign took some getting used to, but it was definitely an improvement. Keep up the great work Opera team!
Latest update messed up the UI 1. Tabs open in random order: If you open a speed dial tab (home button) it'll open as the first tab, if you open a new tab (+ sign) it'll open on the right. 2. Tablet mode is useless: Space given to the tab bar is so tiny that you can't even see two tabs at a time.
Hate the new update Everything was so good in the old version, why ruin it?? I might switch to other browsers if this new version doesn't prove to be user friendly after a week's use. The layout is aweful. Atleast give an option to go to previous version. Whenever I open it (and at many other times) it goes to the first tab which is very irritating.. any settings to change it to go to the last tab?
Latest updates are disappointing No longer can you set your tab navigation to the top of the screen while in phone mode. Tablet mode shows tabs on top but useless on a small screen. Home tab can't be used or closed. Wtf? Lowering from 5 to 3 star due to less usability.
Good: (1) Reader mode (2) Navigation bar at the bottom including easy-to-reach home button. Great for one-handed navigation! Bad: (1) "New tab" behaviour: three taps required to reach speed dial instead of one as before. Please allow user to set it as in previous versions (2) News feed now crammed with yellow press bullsh** and absolutely useless as is. Should be customizable. Definitely.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it It was almost perfect before update. After update all my data (previous session, history, passwords, speed dial tiles, bookmarks) were gone. Also, it seems now that Opera shows at least some ads that it would block before. The new update is just totally disappointing. Edited: Another update now, claims to be bug fixes. No improvement on the ads issue. Also, bring back new tab defaults to Speed Dial (instead of search). Otherwise I guess it's time to look for another browser.
Inconvenient and confusing My husband loved opera. It got so bad that he got me to try it. I used google chrome at the time and thought that opera was on par with it, so I used both interchangeably. Following the update, I find that im often not touching opera in-lieu of chrome. Tab space is tiny, and opening new tabs is a pain if you have 10-over pre-existing tabs - you can't remember what you opened. Also, the current tab doesnt light up, so even if you wanted to delete it, it gets confusing because you even cant locate it.
Used to be awesome. The last update ruined this browser! It used to work great but now i am having heaps of issues. Sites take ages to load, i can no longer download any files and the new layout is crap. I used to prefer using this on my phone but now i will uninstall and go back to Chrome. Such a shame they would totally ruin something that used to work so well.
Was opera bought by fake news ad company? This is a great app if you want to be constantly barraged by psychotic fake news. I've used opera on my desktop for a while, I haven't used the app and so don't know if this is a new development or not. Anyhow, I can't imagine why anyone would want this constant nonstop firehose feed of crazy crazy fake news all the time. Uninstalling, obviously
Update broke this app completely Since the update, I first noticed that on initial start up would take about 10 seconds to load up. That's new. And not cool. Now it constantly freezes and crashes. All the time. What happened? Completely broken. Note 5 with a 100Mb/s broadband connection. Tried clearing cache and force stopping. Made no difference. All other apps and phone functions working as normal. Uninstalled. Going back to Chrome
Opera April 12, 2016
Hey Chris thanks for your feedback! I am glad we could help you. I will forward your request to our developers. Don't forget to give us an upgrade in the ratings:) /Rosi Latest version... meh Preferred the layout of the previous version, with Bookmarks and Offline Pages on the Speed Dial page. They're now an extra click away - bad bad bad! Needs the option to rename (or edit) the titles of offline pages - like in the previous version!
OK I love Opera again... I don't know what happened with the last update but it went nuts. I couldn't download, pages weren't loading that had loaded in the past, etc. Anyway I decided to give it one more chance, uninstalled it, cleaned up all residual files, and reinstalled it. Everything is working as it should now. I'm happy.
Not impressed Type in a partial address of a site you visited and wait 10+ seconds for matching sites to pop up. The new layout is awful, you can only fit 1 tab on the bar at a time?!
New Tab Opens Limited Window When I click on new tab, earlier it used to just open the speed dial page, it was very convenient and much useful as we are used to it. But now suppose I want to open some page from speed dial, it doesn't show that, shows some 7-8 icons of most visited. To open page from speed dial I have to come to position one, in that case, in case I am working together in 10-15 tabs. The next required tab opens on position one. This is very irritating and slow work performance. I am using opera from decade. Kindly check
3 stars and dropping... Don't like that it keeps trending topics I'm uncomfortable with and can't remove. All this reality tv garbage or sex topics at the top. Why can't I move Trending completely? Opera Mini was worse and got uninstalled.
Wtf wrong with new update?? I cannot open more than one new tab. Cannot see all speed dial tabs. Old speed dial saved tabs Vanished. Opening web pages very slowly and Everything else is wrong with new updated version. I just started hating Opera. If this continues you will loose more users like me. I deleted Opera first time ever after using it for all these years.
One browser to rule them all! Google Chrome was the default browser on my mobile but then started getting too big and bloated. The biggest problem was that Chrome would only install on the phone memory and not the memory card. I disabled Chrome and not looked back.
