What’s Going on at IFES?

Parliamentary elections will be held in Morocco on October 7. They will be the second set of legislative elections after the constitutional reform initiated by King Mohamed VI passed through a referendum in 2011.

This September, the ACEEEO celebrated its 25th anniversary with a conference in Tirana, Albania focusing on the “Development of Electoral Systems and Processes in the Last 25 years.” IFES President and CEO Bill Sweeney and IFES Regional Director for Europe and Eurasia Dr. Beata Martin-Rozumiłowicz represented IFES at the conference and wrote an article assessing on the development of electoral processes and democratization over the last 25 years.

This paper is intended as a guide for election practitioners who are interpreting, developing, and implementing legal and regulatory frameworks for elections, and who should understand the hierarchy of these laws.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) recognizes that violence against women in elections is a threat to the integrity of the electoral process – it can affect women’s participation as voters, candidates, election officials, activists, and political party leaders, and it undermines the free, fair, and inclusive democratic process.
