Increased account security via OAuth 2.0 token revocation

Late last year, we announced a planned change https://goo.gl/FHWsW4 to our security policy, whereby OAuth 2.0 tokens would be revoked when a user's password was changed. We later decided not to move forward https://goo.gl/jd8HWI with this change for Apps customers and arrived at a less impactful update, deciding to limit its application to mail scopes only and to exclude Google Apps Script tokens.

This updated policy is now ready to be rolled out, taking effect on October 5, 2016. We encourage developers to make any necessary changes to their apps to handle invalid tokens as a result of this policy implementation.

Setting Expectations for Accessing User Data via OAuth

Google knows that our users love using third-party applications, and we recognize that our users often want to share some data with these applications in order to derive the most benefit. While we want to facilitate this open and stimulating dynamic between developers and our users, the privacy and security of our users’ data is very important to us. We’ve always expected developers to treat Google user data with transparency and concern for user choice, and recently we published expanded policy guidelines for developers who wish to access Google user data using our API services to make our requirements more accessible to everyone. We hope this guidance will help developers and Google users interact in a manner that is informed and consistent with user expectations.
