We know that keeping track of sign in details for various online accounts can be a pain. That’s exactly why last year we introduced a solution that brings you one step closer to a password-free future: Yahoo Account Key.
Account Key gives you an easy way to sign in so that you never have to remember the password to your Yahoo accounts again. Once you sign up, Account Key uses notifications to bring you a quick, simple way to access your accounts from your mobile device. It’s also more secure than a traditional password!
Here are some tips for using Yahoo Account Key to enjoy password-free bliss:
Take advantageof password-free sign in across multiple apps: Account Key is available for Yahoo Mail, and also for apps including Yahoo Finance, Fantasy, Messenger and Sports for iOS and Android.
Use Account Keyanywhere, anytime you have internet: Traveling abroad? As long as you have an internet connection, you can access your account with Account Key.
Set up “Do Not Disturb”: Control the devices or apps that receive Account Key notifications. For example, if you have an iPad on the kitchen table, you can turn off sign in notifications on that device so you don’t disturb your kids while doing their homework.

The latest Yahoo Mail update, available for download today, is now fully compatible with iOS 10 and takes advantage of the new operating system to bring you some fresh new features.
Rich Notifications
No need to launch the app to respond to an email. Now when you receive a notification, you can respond directly from your lock-screen, without having to open the app—just delete or mark as read. You can also now expand the preview of your email with a force touch on the notification.
Spotlight Search
If you’re searching for something in Apple’s Spotlight search, now you’ll be able to continue your search directly within the Yahoo Mail App. Just tap the new “Search in App” button to see more results.
In order to get these new features today, first make sure your Apple device is updated to the latest iOS 10. Then update your Yahoo Mail iOS app to Mail 4.7. Note, with this update we will no longer support iOS 8.
Not sure how to update your app? We’ll give you the rundown in next week’s Tips for Tuesday blog post! Stay tuned.
Since we first introduced link previews on desktop (and recently on iOS!), users have enjoyed sharing visual and informative links with friends, family and even themselves. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing link previews and more to the Yahoo Mail app for Android.
Link Preview
Whether you’re sending a link to a movie trailer, a recent purchase or a news story, we’ll convert that blue link into a visual, informative card that gives email recipients a snapshot of what you’re sending right in their email.
Contact Information
Now when you search for someone in Yahoo Mail, you’ll conveniently see their contact information above their most recent emails, including their picture, phone number and email address. We’ll organize this automatically for you so so you don’t have to remember to add them to your contacts.
High Contrast Themes
Custom themes are now available in higher contrast to improve legibility. This includes thicker weight fonts and higher contrast circles in Select Mode. It’s easy to change themes – simply tap the sidebar button in the upper left corner, scroll to Settings and tap on the General category.
These new features are available today, so be sure to update your Yahoo Mail app from the Google Play Store (to Android 5.8). As always, we’d love to hear your feedback – just go to Settings and tap “Send Feedback.”
Spam email is annoying, which is why we work hard to add new ways to block unwanted emails from making their way into your inbox. Yahoo’s spam-blocking rate is above 99.9%, and we’re proud of that. But there are still those rare .01% instances when junk mail gets past us. Below are some tips that will help you spot, mark and organize spam so you can spend more time in your inbox reading the emails you actually want to be reading. Happy spam hunting!
Tip #1: How To Spot Spam
One of the best ways to spot spam is to check the email address of the message sender. If the address seems suspicious (a mix of letters and numbers, unknown domain, etc.) the safe bet is to not respond and to not click on any links in the email.
Received a suspicious email from “Yahoo” and wondering if it’s legit? Check the body of the email – if there’s a hyperlinked word or phrase (for example, “click here!”) chances are the email is coming from a spam account. Yahoo always lists the link URL (for example, “click here: https://yahoomail.tumblr.com/”) so you can clearly see where you’re clicking. You should also know that Yahoo Customer Care will never ask for personally identifiable information over email, does not have a phone number and will never ask for money for its services.
Tip #2: How To Mark Spam
When you spot spam in your inbox, it’s important that you mark the emails as spam rather than just deleting them. When you mark an email as spam, it improves our ability to spot spam in the future so that it doesn’t make it to your inbox in the first place.
To do this on desktop, tap the Spam button at the top of the email message followed by “Report Spam.” On mobile, you can either long press on the email message from your inbox, tap on the three dots (“…”) and click “Mark as Spam”, or mark as spam in the email message itself.
Tip #3: How To Organize Unwanted Email
Feel like promotional emails from brands and business you’ve subscribed to are cluttering your inbox but don’t want to risk missing out on a sale? On desktop, you can create a separate folder, such as “Promotions,” to filter emails out of your main inbox. Just select the “Filter Emails Like This” option in the right-click menu on a message. And remember, if the emails are still bothersome, you can always unsubscribe using the links at the bottom of the email.
To filter emails on the Android app, click on Settings from the Menu/Sidebar, click on Filters and select the account you want to filter. Here, you can add filters or edit the ones you’ve already set up.

Emails are all about sharing information, and here at Yahoo, we want to make sending photos, videos, files and more a quick and easy experience. By connecting your Dropbox or Google Drive accounts to Yahoo Mail (previously available on mobile, and now also on desktop!) you can enjoy the following features without ever having to leave your inbox:
Easily search through and insert Dropbox or Google Drive links into your emails.
Share files that would exceed the typical file size limits if attached to an email on their own.
Send files you received in your Google Drive or Dropbox accounts without having to download and re-attach them.
To connect your Dropbox or Google Drive accounts to Yahoo Mail, follow these four steps in your desktop browser:
Click ‘Compose’ to write a new email.
On the compose toolbar in the bottom-right of your screen, click the blue + icon.
In the right sidebar, click ‘Dropbox’ or ‘Google Drive’ in the Cloud File Storage section.
Sign-in with your Dropbox or Google account, and voila, you’re connected.
Note: For those of you who have already linked your Dropbox account using the previous share feature, you will need to reconnect in the new sidebar.
We hope you enjoy viewing and sharing all of your files within Yahoo Mail. And as always, we value your feedback – just go to Settings and tap “Send Feedback.” Share Away!
Just in time for the 2016 Opening Ceremonies, we’re introducing several Yahoo Mail updates that help you get in the spirit and keep up with the action. Starting today, you’ll notice:
A medal counter on the bottom left corner of your screen that’s updated in real-time, so you can keep track of each country’s medal count without having to leave Yahoo Mail
Your news feed on Mail will also now feature all things Summer Games, so you can stay on top of team updates and wins all from the convenience of your inbox.
New themed stationery (also on iOS!) available now through the end of the games.
We hope you enjoy these updates, available on desktop for Windows and Mac. As always, we’d love to hear your feedback – just go to Settings and tap “Send Feedback.”
Customization has always been at the core of Yahoo Mail, which is why we’re launching several updates for iOS and Android that allow you to create an inbox that caters to what and who is important to you. Find out more below!
Edit your contacts.
In our previous iOS update, we brought you the ability to see more information about who you’re emailing without asking you to lift a finger. From phone numbers and email addresses to social handles, you can easily access the contact information of those who matter to you. Today, we’re building upon this feature by allowing you to edit and add to this contact information directly within the app to reflect your personal relationships. So, now you can finally change your mom’s name to ‘Mom.’
Star a message quickly.
We know you need to keep track of your most urgent messages, which is why we made starring a message even easier! Now, you can star a message in your inbox with just one tap to quickly highlight those you want to attend to later. Also, if you had stars as a custom swipe, you now have room to create a custom swipe for another action - giving you three possible actions (swipe left, swipe right, and star) instead of two! Enable this feature on iOS today by going to ‘Settings’ and turning on the ‘Show Stars’ capability.
Change the density of your message list.
Do you like reading the first few lines of an email right when you open your inbox? Now you can see as much or as little information about incoming messages as you’d like. Just click on ‘Message Preview’ in ‘Settings’ to decide which of the five options work best for you–from compressed (no avatars or text-preview) to expanded (3 lines of text, images, avatar).
Are you an Android user? We have a treat for you!
For all of you folder fanatics out there, we are making organizing your files quicker and easier. Now, when you tap an email that you’d like to move to a folder, just start typing the name of that specific folder and the list will filter down as you type! Now, you can spend less time scrolling and more time organizing.
The new features are rolling out today, so be sure to update your Yahoo Mail app from the App Store and the Play Store to the latest versions (iOS 4.6 and Android 5.7). As always, we’d love to hear your feedback – just go to Settings and tap “Send Feedback.”
Most of us have multiple email accounts; one for personal use, one for work, and maybe one to receive deals just in case your favorite store has a sale. Though having more than one account may be necessary, the amount of time it takes to manage multiple accounts is not. Since introducing the ability to connect all of your email accounts to Yahoo Mail, we have continued to add features to help you stay connected, organized, and in control of all of your emails with one app. Check them out below!
Support for All Your Inboxes, Not Just Yahoo - In addition to supporting Hotmail, Outlook, and AOL, last December we made it possible to also connect your Gmail account (including Google Apps!) so you can always access what you need, whether it’s an email or a document.
Name Your Inboxes - Rename each of your inboxes with a descriptive label, such as “Work” “Home,” or “Coupons” so you can easily categorize and find the emails you’re looking for. Simply tap and hold down the inbox name to edit!
Glance at Unread Messages - On Android and iOS, easily see how many unread messages you have for multiple inboxes without having to switch between accounts.
Custom Settings For Each Inbox - You have separate accounts for a reason. Customize each inbox with signatures, notifications, and themes that cater to its purpose.
Widgets - On Android, you can now always have a complete view of your accounts thanks to widgets that show you the unread count for each of your inboxes at once.
Still hesitant because you’re not sure all of those emails will fit on your mobile device? Or, not convinced it makes sense to merge everything into one account? We’ve got you covered:
Storage - We only download the emails that you’re likely to need onto your device—most recent emails and emails in folders you visit most—rather than every email you send and receive, giving you access to all of the space that you need.
Search - Save time by searching across all of your accounts at once instead of having to switch between accounts.
Sync - When you read or delete an email these actions will be synced across your connected accounts so you don’t have to perform the same actions twice.
See - With contact cards, you can now see more information about a sender, including their photo, phone number, email, and more.
Simply click here to add accounts today! And if you need some help, you can follow the steps for how to get started on iOS, Android, and desktop. As always, please send us your feedback so we can continue improving your Yahoo Mail experience!
It’s happened to all of us: you’re scrolling through your email, taking care of business, when that ominous ‘Storage Full’ notification pops up. And then your life flashes before your eyes as you think about having to delete not only emails, but cherished memories in the form of photos, videos, and documents. With Yahoo Mail, you can finally scroll without fear (on desktop or mobile) with 1TB of storage that’s yours for the taking. And did we mention it’s free?
Let’s break it down. What does 1TB of storage mean for you? Room to store about 500,000 photos. Never worry about taking too many selfies or capturing weekend brunch again.
Concerned that having so many files in one place would result in clutter rather than organization? Have no fear! By leveraging Yahoo’s strength in search, you will always find exactly what you need. Just enter a term in the search bar and any file that includes that term will surface and be separated out by messages, photos, and documents. Thanks to archive, you can even search files you’ve gotten out of the way. Now you can spend more time sharing and less time searching.
But, we didn’t stop there! Yahoo Mail also offers integration with your cloud provider. This means accessing everything you need in one place—any document, photo, and video from Google Drive and Dropbox. And, you can even view the file without having to download it to your desktop or mobile phone.
We hope you enjoy living the ‘never have to delete’ lifestyle—we sure do. No user yet has hit the 1TB limit, but you could be the one - use that storage up! And if you’re ever curious, you can click on ‘Settings’ to see the percentage of storage you are currently using.
As always, don’t forget to share your feedback—just go to Settings and tap “Send Feedback.”
