    Uh, DeepMind used Bayesian optimization to tune hyperparameters in AlphaGo, increasing win rate by ~15 ish? (couldn’t quite catch that on slide). Not surprising, but pretty good lift! AutoML tutorial

    This is so cool.

    Microsoft VSCode integrates deeply with PyTorch out of the box. As highlights: 1. It shows values inside tensors. (Left panel) 2. By simply mousing over, you can see the variable's shape, weight, bias, dtype, device, etc.

    Really nasty situation. The lack of credit is disturbing in and of itself, but I find the pestering on the github repo (linked in discussion) particularly damning.

    left: the "AI generated" portrait Christie's is auctioning off right now right: outputs from a neural network I trained and put online *over a year ago*. Does anyone else care about this? Am I crazy for thinking that they really just used my network and are selling the results?

    I noticed the same deceleration. Perhaps as the field moves from prediction to decision making (although some might argue that the RL community has been doing that), quantification of uncertainty and proper experimental practice might be the new focus.
