    The thing Republicans taking cheap shots forget to mention is that it’s about having trouble affording a SECOND apartment. I live in the Bronx and work in DC. Need a spot in both. But I understand how they can’t conceive of a life where people don’t casually maintain 2 homes.

    It’s a great that could even maintain rent while campaigning & especially during the post-election/pre-swearing in period. Expecting her to easily drop serious cash in another high-rent area is ludicrous and only perpetuates the idea that the wealthy are worthy electeds.

    I often find that some members who have to do call time the most are very enthusiastic about getting money out of politics. Members do want less obligations to lobbyists & more leg. work, but some House races cost < $10 million; & that’s *every 2 years* before outside spending!

    This week I learned some members spend as little as 5 hours per WEEK in their office bc their fundraising commitments are so high. It’s not them, it’s our broken system of campaign finance. Bc I rely on recurring small dollar donors ( !), I can do my job.

    I learned yesterday that attendance at committee meetings is abysmally low. Committee chairs are excited when we tell them ' doesn't do call time, so we can actually show up!'. Just showing up is too high a bar for these legislators telling us we need to learn the ropes.

    For what it’s worth, the mix of 7 embedded campaign reporters looked racially diverse (at least based on last names), with the exception of lacking an African-American. If there aren’t strict racial quotas for every batch of hires, does it mean a company is racist?
