The original Tsutenkaku Tower (“Sky Route Tower”) was built in 1912, in Shinsekai (“New World”), Osaka. It was 64 meters high, and it was the 2nd biggest structure in Asia at that time. The tower was badly damaged by a fire in 1943, and disassembled shortly after. In the post-war years, local people campaigned for a new tower, and the current tower was built in 1956. This tower is 103 meters tall and it became one of Osaka’s landmarks.
