Perhaps you have an older home and the roof over your porch is old too, or you're dealing with storm damage that caused a leak on part of your roof. Either way, it's important to address the issue. But do you have to reroof the entire porch?
The first step is determining the source of the leak. If you see water dripping in your sunroom, the leak might not be coming from right above there, as water can travel. If the porch has a finished ceiling, for example, remove a few boards and check the underside of the roof sheathing for water stains -- they may help pinpoint the leak's location.
The leak may be due to the flashing rather than the roofing material itself. If you aren't sure where the leak is coming from or how to handle the situation, contact an experienced roofing professional. Don't just hire a handyman with a bucket of tar. You might save some money in the short run, but slathering roofing tar on the flashing doesn't fix the problem, and can accelerate corrosion by trapping moisture between the tar and the metal.
