Understand your billing cycle

Your costs are charged automatically in one of two ways, whichever comes first:

  • a regular monthly cycle (monthly billing)
  • when your account has accrued a certain amount of charges (threshold billing)

To view your billing cycle and find out when you will be billed:

  1. Go to the API Console.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. If you have more than one billing account, select the billing account name.
  4. On the left, click Payment settings.

Find your billing cycle next to How you pay:

    • Monthly automatic payments: this billing account has a monthly billing cycle and it will be charged automatically on the second day of every month for charges accrued during the previous month.
    • Automatic payments: this billing account has a threshold billing cycle and it will be charged automatically when the costs accrued meet the threshold, or thirty days after your last bill, whichever comes first.

Threshold billing is described in more detail in the following section.

Note: If you prefer to control when and how your costs are paid, you can pay your account in advance. For more information, see Make a manual payment.

Note also that some accounts might be eligible to receive monthly invoices from which they can pay via check or wire transfer. For more information, see Request invoiced billing.

Threshold billing

A billing threshold is a level of spending that, when met, triggers a charge to your billing account. The threshold starts at a set amount which is raised automatically if your costs reach that amount within 30 days. Otherwise, you are charged 30 days after your last bill. Fees are accrued in the period between charges.

Threshold and 30-day payment boundaries

To find out what your spending threshold is:

  1. Go to the API Console.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. If you have more than one billing account, select the billing account name.
  4. On the left, click Payment settings. View the threshold amount next to How you pay. For example, if your billing threshold is $1000.00, you might see a message that says "You'll be charged when your balance reaches $1000.00 or 30 days after your last automatic payment, whichever comes first."
Note:
  • The amount billed may be in excess of the threshold if the account accrues costs very quickly.
  • You can be charged multiple times a month if your account reaches your billing threshold repeatedly over that time.
  • The billing threshold is raised each time your account spend hits the threshold before 30 days have passed.

You won't be emailed or notified when your billing threshold increases, but you can find your current threshold any time by going to your billing pages.
