What would you want to hear about in a podcast about Orlando? by whispermode in orlando

I love this idea. John Young was an astronaut! Also, what /u/OrlandoUnicorn said, that cemetery is massive and there are a lot of familiar names (Harry P. Leu and Joe Tinker come to mind).

What's something everyone just accepts as normal that's actually completely fucked up when you think about it? by TragicHero84 in AskReddit

[–]krispykrackers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for a family owned restaurant in a ritzy part of town, husband and wife were the managers (she was front house, he was back). I stepped on something in the morning that left a really deep gash in my foot, it was bleeding through my sock. I went to work anyway and got the morning stuff prepped and showed the husband my sock, I wanted to go home and dress it and stuff. He accused me of "not giving a shit" about his restaurant. I was almost fired.

MFW people I don't know tell me to smile by wingizm in TrollXChromosomes

[–]krispykrackers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I have a little bit of a different thought about this. I don't think that you're specifically saying "smile because it makes you look prettier" or anything. But I also agree that it can definitely come off that way.

I think it's more of a miscommunication. A man sees a woman who looks sad, and wants to make her feel better, so thinking by telling her they're prettier if they smile will do that. Unfortunately, it won't, because he's obviously ignoring a lot of factors (resting bitch face, maybe something is wrong in their personal lives that they don't want to talk about, maybe they are just eating fucking lunch and don't want to talk to a rando, and most of all that you don't think that they don't look pretty when they look like they do which isn't any of your business).

I think it's usually more that a man finds a woman pretty and happens to look unhappy, and the misguided gesture is to try to make them feel better by telling them that he thinks they're pretty by saying that they'd be prettier if they weren't unhappy, without regarding any other factors. I guess it's all about intent, as are most things. It's probably better just to not say anything about a strangers looks at all, male or female.

Not totally related story, I once told Carrot Top he looked awful when I waited on him at a brunch place in like 2002, turned out he had a bad head cold. I cringe now when I think about it though, I could have easily offended a stranger much worse if it were something else.

What do you wish was socially acceptable? by mushroom-flower in AskReddit

[–]krispykrackers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't exactly related, but I remember once when I was a waitress there was a mother with a few kids showing them how to stick their finger down their throats and throw up. I saw her doing this, so when she tried to get the bill comp'd because the food "made her kids sick" I stepped in... it was so weird.

I've never understood this line of thinking. Lots of people have downtime at work. Plus, if people who were at work stopped redditing, we'd have that many fewer adults posting and people already complain about rampant immaturity...

Alt Shift X has also made me appreciate the level of detail and dedication that GRRM has devoted to his work.

Agreed. I watched part of the first season back when the show was new, but never really paid attention to it after that. Then, when this season started, I paid attention. I really got in to it, and had to try and rewatch all the previous seasons and catch up.

I found (because of this place) Alt Shift X, Ozzy Man, and /u/chryswatchesgot and binged all of their content. It not only helped me catch up super quickly, but dudes like Alt Shift X actually got me closer to book level understanding and introduced me to conspiracy theory fun.

Reading the books now!
