Currently in Technology Preview, VMware Cloud on AWS will be a new solution that makes it easy for customers to run VMware workloads on the AWS Cloud.
VMware Cloud on AWS is the only VMware-delivered, sold and supported service available on a leading public cloud.
Customers will be able to use VMware’s virtualization and management software to seamlessly deploy and manage VMware workloads across all of their on-premises and AWS environments. This new offering will allow customers to leverage their existing investments in VMware skillsets and tooling to quickly and seamlessly take advantage of the flexibility and economics of the AWS Cloud.

VMware Cloud on AWS makes it easy for VMware customers to deploy native VMware environments on the world’s most popular and trusted cloud platform.
The service uses our next-generation elastic, bare metal AWS infrastructure. It runs directly on the physical hardware, while still taking full advantage of a host of network and hardware features designed to support our security-first design model. This allows us to run the VMware virtualization stack on AWS infrastructure in an elastic and secure manner without having to use nested virtualization.
Integrated with AWS Services
VMware Virtual Machines running on AWS can leverage over 70 AWS services covering compute, storage, database, security, analytics, mobile, and IoT. Customers can now run latency-sensitive workloads such as databases on Amazon Aurora or Amazon DynamoDB, or use the Amazon Redshift warehouse for petabyte-scale data analysis.
Workload Migration
VMware Cloud on AWS works seamlessly with vSphere vMotion, allowing you to move running virtual machines from on-premises infrastructure to the AWS Cloud without any downtime. The virtual machines retain network identity and connections, ensuring a seamless migration experience.
Fully Managed and Operated by VMware
VMware Cloud on AWS will be delivered, sold and supported by VMware as an on-demand, elastically scalable service. The underlying infrastructure is automatically provisioned, and VMware handles all of the billing and support.
Leverage existing VMware Investments
With VMware Cloud on AWS, customers will be able to leverage their existing investment in VMware licenses through customer loyalty programs.
Complete VMware Compatibility
VMware Cloud on AWS will provide VMware customers with full VM compatibility and seamless workload portability between their on-premises infrastructure and the AWS Cloud without the need for any workload modifications or retooling.
