Casey Affleck delivers a career-making performance in writer/director Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester By The Sea, one of the year’s best films. Manchester By The Sea blends heartbreak and humor as Affleck’s working-class New Englander and his teenage nephew struggle to remake their lives after the death of the boy’s father. Aided by beautiful photography and outstanding acting, this brilliant film offers a natural and realistic slice of life in a small New England town, life with all its strange turns and unexpected humor, as these two move forward from their tragic loss.

Man Down – Review
With just a few weeks to go in 2016, it’s time to hit the sand with another film set in the (seems like) ongoing hotspot of the world, the Middle East. And while the recent Allied was set in the days of the second world war, this one deals with the current conflict. This time of year has been the release time for several of those armed forces features. Winter of 2013 had Lone Survivor while the following year American Sniper was a surprise box office smash. Odd, that this year we’ve seen three comedies use the war as a backdrop. There was Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, War Dogs, and Billy Lynn’S Long Halftime Walk (it might be a comedy, who knows?). But things are very grim and dour as Shia La Beouf reunites with writer/director Dito Montiel nearly ten years after A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints for the drama Man Down. »

Last night, We Are Movie Geeks attended the Belko Industries Holiday Party and it did not disappoint! The event was held to unveil the new red-band trailer for The Belko Experiment, the upcoming “kill-or-be-killed” dark comedy/thriller from writer/producer James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy).
Directed by Greg McLean (creator of the Wolf Creek franchise), The Belko Experiment is a terrifying, provocative and at times hilarious thrill-ride that literally provokes the question; what does it take to survive at work?
In attendance were Gunn, director McLean (via FaceTime), executive producer Peter Safran, cast members Tony Goldwyn (via taped video intro), John C. McGinley, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Adria Arjona, James Earl, David Del Rio, Owain Yeoman, David Dastmacian, and Gail Bean.
I had a chat with star Michael Rooker (aka “Yondu” from Guardians of the Galaxy). “Jimmy (Gunn) always calls me when he needs an a-hole…but in this film, »
