VidCon Europe
VidConEurope display at ABC Amsterdam

VidCon Europe, 7-9 April in Amsterdam, will bring the internet's biggest stars and best-selling authors together with their fans for a three-day celebration. John Green, Hannah Hart, Tyler Oakley and Joey Graceffa, TomSka and Carrie Hope Fletcher, Dutch creators Kwebbelkop and Sanne Vliegenthart, and dozens of other online-video creators will be the focus of the three-day-long affair, meeting their biggest fans, performing, and hosting interactive panels.

Our Iris will be visiting VidCon, so be sure to check our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram feeds this weekend for what amazing authors she might bump into (or be in the vicinity of while fangirling).

We can heartily recommend the books by these authors. They are full of straight-up advice, downright silly stories, and they make terrific gifts for pretty much any teen and young adult in your vicinity. A list can be found on our website.

Presentation: The making of Apollo VII - XVII: The Book
Join us at Spui25 in Amsterdam on Sunday 9 April for a presentation on the making of Apollo VII - XVII: The Book.

Generally the Apollo astronauts are hailed as great scientists, adventurers, explorers and heroes, but rarely are they portrayed as some of the most significant photographers of all time. Four young guys, working together at an advertising agency in Amsterdam, searched for a book that would do justice to the images made by the Apollo astronauts. A book like this just didn't seem to exist, so they decided to make it themselves! They will be interviewed by independent photographer Patricia Steur. To make a reservation click here.

Wired magazine featured the authors and some of the stunning images in their March 2017 issue.

CJP promotion spring 2017

Until the end of August we have a very special deal for all CJP card holders: 10% discount AND and an extra 2.50 off two of the most hotly anticipated titles of the moment!

The Upside of Unrequited is Becky Albertalli's second book, after the much-loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. This book promises more YA love, humor, and kooky characters. It will go on sale in the second week of April.

Into the Water is the follow-up to the massive bestseller The Girl on the Train. Paula Hawkins delivers another tense psychological thriller that, by various accounts, is better than her debut. It will go on sale in May.

So bring your CJP card, enjoy the double discount, and get lost in two great books! And, while you're visiting us, be sure to take your free copy of CJP magazine C., available in both stores now.

What we are reading
Iris: "I'm reading Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton as part of a co-annotation project. I'm the 5th person to read & annotate this book, and the experience has been pretty interesting so far. Sometimes it's hard to not let other people's comments distract me, but other times they add insights or references that I hadn't thought of. I guess this works especially well for detective novels, since we're all trying to figure out the clues that lead to the killer."

Martijn: "I'm almost done with The Nowhere Man by Greg Hurwitz. Very enjoyable, just like the first book in the series."

Renate: "300 Arguments by Sarah Manguso. A small book with seemingly random yet quotable remarks and observations about life, the art of writing, failure, love, death, sex and ambition. Read as a whole, though, 300 Arguments is a piercing work of art in itself; a story about what it is to keep trying to make something, with or without failure."

Luke: "Mindset by Carol Dweck, regarding the fixed mindset and the growth mindset. Let us grow!"

Pleun: "I just finished Into the Water, the new Paula Hawkins. It's a better book than The Girl on the Train. Now I'm reading Trophy Child by Paula Daly."

Check out what else we're reading here.

There are ebooks available for Now You See Me, Nowhere Man, Orphan X, Mindset, The Girl on the Train, and Trophy Child.
Nowhere Man - Greg Hurwitz
300 Arguments - Sarah Manguso
Mindset - Carol Dweck

Fantastic Story Competition winner
Fantastic Story Competition at Dutch Comic Con

Many congratulations to Marjolijn van der Meijden, who won the Fantastic Story Competition 2017 with her story 'Death's Diner'!

The 10 finalists got to read their stories aloud on the stage at Dutch Comic Con, and the big reveal was shown live on our Facebook feed. Fantastic Stories, an anthology featuring the best stories in the competition, was printed on our Espresso Book Machine and can be bought at either store.

Many thanks to the Stichting ter bevordering van het fantastisch genre for co-organising this competition, to everyone who read the shortlisted titles and voted, and Dutch Comic Con for hosting the awards presentation.

We especially want to thank the fabulous authors that joined us this year: Zen Cho, Laura Lam, Vic James, N. J. Simmonds and Sam Maggs. Their good cheer and boundless energy made our stand that much more vibrant.

ABC's DCC authors (and Tiemen)

You can read interviews with all the authors except Sam Maggs on Hebban.nl (in Dutch), and we have a few signed copies of their books left in both stores. More pictures of DCC2017 can also be found on our Facebook page.
