As the head of equine sports medicine at Tuft’s Hospital for Large Animals, Dr. José García-López’s keeps racehorses, Olympic-medal hopefuls and amateurs, injury-free. Similar to a doctor’s visit for humans, José gets a history of the horse, does an evaluation and physical exam, and determines the best course of action for the injury.
Sara Lewis studies firefly sex and evolution by freezing pairs and dissecting them for a time-lapse inside view. Through her research, Sara has determined the complex way in which fireflies reproduce. She recently used her extensive research to write a book titled, ‘ The Mysteries of Firefly Sex: A Scientist’s Notes from the Field.’
James Levine is among the top composers in the field. He is the musical voice of shows including Glee, Nip/Tuck, Major Crimes and The Closer. He’s worked on plenty of big-screen scores too, including Michael Bay’s 2001 war epic Pearl Harbor, the 2005 animated hit Madagascar, and Ryan Murphy’s 2006 adaptation of Running with Scissors.
As a computer science professor, Ming Chow studies hacking and the techniques used to hack into computers and other electronic devices. The most common misconception Ming hears is that the majority of hacking is high-tech when, in fact, the most common type of hacking is very low-tech, searching through trash for example.
As a student at Tufts Medical School, Sam started a free health clinic in Chinatown. After graduation he worked as a doctor in the Bay Area and started a clinic for the underserved in his community. Today Sam works as executive vice president and chief medical officer of PacifiCare Health Systems, and recently established a scholarship fund to assist Tufts medical students interested in primary care.
