Kings maintain continuity with most of last season's roster intact

New coach, GM, promoted within organization, look to get to playoffs

by Lisa Dillman @reallisa / NHL.com Staff Writer

After the NHL Draft, free agency and other offseason moves, NHL.com is taking a look at where each team stands. Today, the Los Angeles Kings:

The major changes for the Los Angeles Kings came at the top of the organization, with Rob Blake and John Stevens replacing general manager Dean Lombardi and coach Darryl Sutter after the 2016-17 season.

Blake, promoted from assistant GM, and Stevens, who long was considered the coaching heir apparent to Sutter, give the Kings some organizational continuity, but at the same time, each has the ability to introduce some fresh ideas. The Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and in 2014 but have missed the playoffs in two of the past three seasons.

Turgeon to use experience with Arbour, Quenneville to help with Kings

Will serve in offensive coordinator-type role as Los Angeles assistant coach

by Brian Compton @BComptonNHL / NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- The memories came flooding back the moment Pierre Turgeon walked into the New York Islanders' practice facility last week to participate in their first fantasy camp.

Turgeon, who was named an assistant coach of the Los Angeles Kings on July 10, immediately started thinking of former Islanders coach Al Arbour, the man who led Turgeon and the Islanders on an improbable run to the Wales Conference Final in 1993 that featured a seven-game series win in the second round against the Pittsburgh Penguins, who were seeking their third straight Stanley Cup championship.

"He's a big guy," Groulx said. "I was with him in the elevator. He's big, he's thick."

Comtois confident he'll fit in with Ducks

Forward prospect believes he landed in right place after falling to No. 50 in 2017 NHL Draft

by Dan Arritt / NHL.com Correspondent

ANAHEIM -- Maxime Comtois could have landed just about anywhere in the NHL. Every team except the Minnesota Wild and Washington Capitals had the opportunity to pick the 18-year-old left wing before the Anaheim Ducks selected him No. 50 in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Comtois had 51 points (22 goals, 29 assists) in 64 games for Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, a drop from the 60 points and 26 goals he had in 62 games the season before. That dip caused Comtois to wait longer than expected to hear his name called at the draft in Chicago, but his slide may have ended at the ideal spot.

Mosdell moved by Stanley Cup visit in 2005

Four-time champion with Canadiens got reacquainted with trophy months before death

by Dave Stubbs @Dave_Stubbs / NHL.com Columnist

The Stanley Cup arrived in Ken Mosdell's tidy retirement-home apartment 12 years ago today, and a man whose name was engraved four times on the priceless trophy as a member of the Montreal Canadiens said more with his moist eyes and broad smile than words ever could.

For the past two decades, in one of the great Stanley Cup traditions, each player and coach from the champions spends a summer day with the trophy, as do select others from the team. This month and next, the Cup is scheduled to visit at least six countries with members of the Pittsburgh Penguins, no doubt making a few return trips to venues from last summer, when the Penguins celebrated their 2016 championship.
