I don't think Shonda Rhimes sees Hillary that way, but I do think she thought Mellie was the better story, and I think it's worth asking why

To be clear, the show makes her a complicated, sometimes sympathetic character, but it's still starting from the assumption that she's evil.

She is literally the woman who stays with a philandering husband she hates because she thinks he's her ticket to the presidency.

Mellie is everything the media spent 20 years telling us Hillary was: ruthless, power-hungry, willing to do anything for position.

Another thing I don't think I could stomach about #Scandal right now is its depiction of Mellie, who is basically the show's Evil Hillary.

Like, if you find yourself wishing for the presidency of Fitzgerald Grant III, something has gone seriously wrong. #Scandal

And I can't stand how #Scandal prettifies (and makes sexy) what in the real world is simply sordid and pathetic.

Let's face it: a show about how everyone in D.C. is corrupt, self-absorbed, and possibly crazy is a little redundant right now. #Scandal

Ugh. I was looking forward to this week's #Supergirl, but then I saw a tumblr post that reminded me the Guardian story is still a thing.

Not that both can't be true. But FFJ is the sanitized version of the Trump story, in which giving a rich person anything they want is kind.
