    Finland is 1 country with 6km total of railway. A national rail system in the US is way more challenging. The US has historically relied on cars far more than in Europe, resulting in greater city sprawl and lower demand for mass transit.

    Every time someone makes this observation...I agree. But the 2 are not comparable. The California coastline alone is slightly more than the distance between Venice and Amsterdam. And it’s unreasonable to compare 28 countries to 1.

    Every time I ride a train in Europe, it makes the trains in the U.S. feel like third world country transport.

    🔥New preprint! We hijacked secretion systems of brain-infiltrating parasites so they secrete therapeutic proteins inside neurons. We propose this could be used in the future to deliver drugs through the BBB as the parasite is mostly asymptomatic in immunocompetent individuals

    Definitely ordering a copy!

    This is my favorite biology book right now. An amazing collection of "back of the envelop" calculations that show how so many things in biology make so much sense after you do a simple arithmetic calculation. Very illuminating!
