To be honest, I don't even understand unnecessary volume. I think all volume (anything that emits a sound) should have a definite purpose.

I wouldn't be surprised when I'm 40 to open one of these menus to see digital screens inside showing me a 360 Panoramic view of the sushi.

I think it's because they make them so ornate! Light blues, pinks, and purples, colors that probably shouldn't belong on a sushi menu.
