oh buh-rother. you’re right, women never act of their own agency and all the power any woman on this show has achieved is because some dude bit it. what a rewarding and nuanced narrative.
None of these women are in power because their men went off to war in died.
Sansa asked Jon to go to war, she was the driving force between the whole battle in Winterfell and the reason it was successful. Dany killed her brother because he was a creep and an idiot. Yara is fighting for the salt throne even though it is currently held by a man. Margaery’s dad and brother are still alive but they’re losers, so she’s the only one we see doing anything. Before Lyanna, Bear Island was ruled by another woman, Maege Mormont.
He rapes her more or less on top of her dead son’s body in season four. It’s different in the books, and D&D "apologized" for doing a bad job translating the scene, but yeah it was pretty gross!
: (
Also a world in which everyone is male, and anyone who isn’t male is just a crybaby!
Remember when Jon pretended to be a Wildling foot soldier for like 14 episodes.
WELP. And there’s Beric and Thoros in episode eight, alongside a mention of Catelyn Stark from just about everyone in the cast. EEEEP.
I hope JoJo gets an HGTV show out of this at least
Why would you assume there are "far fewer" women out there who are capable of making movies? Bryan didn’t take issue with the fact that Ghibli is a small studio, he’s taking issue with the actual words out of this man’s mouth that said women probably aren’t capable of directing this type of movie. The opportunity to work with Ghibli isn’t even open to women if this is the starting mindset of a producer with a position of power and prestige.
Also: " At which point, is that not sexism as well?" No. Sexism is systematic discrimination and oppression on the basis of sex, which is not something anyone should claim has happened to a man… ever.
