and what was that "careful consideration". what are the "other tools"? do you realize every time you do this how much trust is being lost? it's not something you quantify I guess in your equations of this decision.
you deprecated google catalogs. with google drive hosting at least it was possible to make html catalog, with images in google drive, some js/css and have simple online catalog.
I guess if google can't extract information from something it is not "useful"

Is there a proposed Google alternative opposed to outside sources?

;-(

I guess this service was overused and/or monetised by 3rd parties.
I'm really sad, it was a great feature to share information in many cases.

Could you please explain or tell us of another service that integrates directly into Google Drive where you can store image/html files into Drive and have the website update in real time based on Drive's contents?

I use this thing daily and relied on the url's never changing!

This is a horrible decision and is only the 2nd worst decision the Drive team has ever made next to Drive for Linux support.

Please reconsider!

Is there an alternative for those of us using this feature to display images in Google Sheets via =image( "http://www.googledrive.com/host/file_id") ? I use this feature every day and your alternatives do not seem to cover this need. Thanks.

Google Drive hosting is/was a great way to put simple content on the web. I am sad that Google is discontinuing this functionality. Am very interested in hearing about alternative services that provide simple static hosting.

Very sad. This forces me to rely upon DropBox instead (which still does support static web pages). In my web app users save their work in their Google Drive accounts and can optionally publish it as web pages. While work can still be saved in Google Drive if publishing requires DropBox then may as well make that the default for everything. Sad - I liked GoogleDrive.

Well, I'm looking for an easy solution to host & publish HTML+image based content (generated by software) to our (Google Apps) company users, without having to set up and maintain yet another web server or pay for yet another hosting service

(Anyone ever seen one that supports secure sharing consistent with Google Apps, anyway?)
