Weekly book review! I picked up this history of microbes and our understanding of them for reasons involving my new book, but it proved to be a roaringly entertaining read. Microbes have shaped EVER FACET of life on earth, and of the creatures they colonize. A human's microbiome may shape not only how effectively they digest food but also aspects of their personality, which calls into question a lot of the ideas we have about what exactly constitutes a person's essential self. Fascinating (and slightly terrifying) stuff. I'd love to know in comments what books you're reading, and what you think of them! -John
