Watson Beat + Seth Rudetsky: A Broadway Showtunes Collaboration Broadway composer and current Sirius XM Broadway host Seth Rudetsky partners with IBM Watson to create a Tony Awards inspired cognitive collaboration using elements from 4 songs from the 2017 Tony Award® nominated Best Musicals - Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, Groundhog Day The Musical and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet From 1812.
Creating music with AI
Watson Beat is a machine deep learning algorithm that learns to create music. IBM researchers are teaching a complex neural network to understand music theory, structure (pitch, time signature, key signature), emotional intent and co-create music with a human partner. Taking in audio files or live play, Watson Beat generates unique song combinations in line with music theory in audio file, or sheet music (notes) format.

An example of how this works: Watson Beat digests a song and then, by adding genre and mood or sentiment, identifies subtle nuances in the original song to produce something new, based on the composer's input (whether via file or live play). Watson Beat can take an existing song or mix songs or music from different genres, to create completely new music. For instance, by mixing "Mary Had a Little Lamb' and "Oh Susannah," Waston Beat can come up with an entirely new song that integrates both original versions.
