Hosting for ‘the Kate Effect’
jan 16 2015
On 15th January we saw another small British business fall victim to ‘the Kate effect’, when the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in the £450 navy ‘Naomi’ shift dress by Madderson London. British maternity line Madderson were totally unprepared for the honour and the rush on its website caused it to almost immediately go down. As a UK provider of web hosting services I find this incredibly frustrating to hear. There’s no excuse for websites being unable to handle traffic, this is after all what cloud computing is all about, the ability to scale resources up and down based on demand.

Jury still out on G-Cloud 6
dec 18 2014
"I hope they get the formula right that allows the smaller companies to sell to buyers who are confident in their services. But the jury is out as to whether or not those changes are going to achieve this," he said. Robin Pape, public sector advisor for SMB supplier Memset said he was optimistic about the key changes to G-Cloud 6. "With the change to the Digital Marketplace from CloudStore- it's early days but we feel it can only help customers find services and that has been one of the big issues with G-Cloud in the past. "It's an evolution - we are on iteration six now and every time it gets better," he said.

Hire and hold IT staff in 2015: The Reg's how-to guide
nov 27 2014
Employers beware – after years of relative inactivity, job seekers are gearing up for change. Economic improvements and an increase in business confidence have led to a burgeoning jobs market and an epidemic of itchy feet. While a certain amount of staff churn is inevitable – and even good – new research from IT recruiter Hays suggesting that 65 per cent of IT professionals expect to move jobs in the next 12 months has propelled IT staff recruitment and retention even higher up the corporate agenda as a sense of urgency, particularly among those employing niche skills in short supply - quite rightly sets in.
Guildford Lions Thank Public For Supporting Fireworks Fiesta
nov 13 2014
Once again on a perfect November 5th evening, thousands joined the torchlight procession from the High Street to Stoke Park to join a huge crowd, estimated at approx. 20,000, for our annual Guildford Lions Fireworks Fiesta. The vast crowd enjoyed a spectacular display which culminated in a magnificent finale funded by local IT company Memset Ltd. Guildford Lions organise the evening as a free to enter charity/community event relying on local sponsorship and public donations. Whilst the monies raised are still being counted we are confident a substantial donation will be made to two local charities (Oakleaf a mental health charity and Guildford Action supporting homeless people) as well as Guildford Lions Club’s own welfare fund.
Bonfire Night: firework display dazzles big Guildford crowd
nov 06 2014
A record crowd filled Stoke Park on Thursday night to watch the annual firework spectacular light up the clear skies of Guildford. Guildford Lions said they thought it was the largest crowd ever witnessed, with estimates of around 18,000 to 20,000 people of all ages enjoying the show. More than 1,000 torches were sold for the procession, which marched from the High Street to Stoke Park before the fireworks were set off at around 8.30pm. As well as the impressive firework show, there were fairground rides, games and food stalls to keep attendees entertained throughout the evening. Trevor Perry, one of the Guildford Lions who help to organise the event, said: "We were extremely pleased with it. The weather held out for us. "It was probably the best crowd we have had. We think about 18,000 to 20,000, the best crowd we have seen. "We are really pleased and are now just awaiting the result from the bucket collection donations." Mr Perry thanked all of the sponsors of the events, including Memset, Ewbank, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Big Yellow Self Storage, Dag Scaffolding, and its security team, Fidelis.
