The Library of Congress has actively acquired microforms
since the early 1940s. There is now a large and growing amount of research material available in many languages and formats - books, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, manuscripts, government documents, and dissertations. This collection numbers some 8.9 million items in hundreds of distinct collections.
