The Ethereum Foundation’s mission is to promote and support research, development and education to bring decentralized protocols and tools to the world that empower developers to produce next generation decentralized applications (dapps), and together build a more globally accessible, more free and more trustworthy Internet.

Executive Director
Ming Chan

An alumna of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she studied Computer Science and Media Arts & Sciences, Ming has a background in enterprise IT and management consulting projects, founding and growing businesses, and working with top educators, scientists, and inventors to bring inspiring research innovation to life. Her interests and work include legal and regulatory matters related to blockchain technology.

Vitalik Buterin

Vitalik is the creator of Ethereum. He first discovered blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies through Bitcoin in 2011, and was immediately excited by the technology and its potential. He cofounded Bitcoin Magazine in September 2011, and after two and a half years looking at what the existing blockchain technology and applications had to offer, wrote the Ethereum white paper in November 2013. He now leads Ethereum's research team, working on future versions of the Ethereum protocol.
Technical Steering Group
Jeffrey Wilcke

Jeff is one of the founders of Ethereum. He started the first implementation of Ethereum using the Go programming language in 2013 and has been the Go team lead and head developer ever since. The Go client launched successfully on July 30, 2015, marking the release of the genesis block and Ethereum platform. Jeff complements Vitalik on the board as a founder-director.

Bernd Lapp

Bernd Lapp’s background and experience in management experience spans many years across multiple industries including finance, digital media, and sports. In his last role as Head of Sales, he was responsible for defining and implementing the sales strategy for the most successful mobile banking app in Germany. Bernd advises the Foundation on topics such as PR, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising and related HR and business planning.
Stefano Bertolo

Stefano Bertolo is a civil servant advising the Foundation in a strictly personal capacity with the formal permission of his employer. He is an alumnus of Rutgers University, where he earned his Ph.D. in philosophy and cognitive psychology. He did post-doctoral work on human language learning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked as an artificial intelligence programmer at Cycorp. An enthusiast of prediction markets, Stefano earned the rank of Superforecaster in the Good Judgment Project. He lives in Luxembourg where has been working on public research and development funding for international projects in data management and analytics for the past ten years.
Yessin Schiegg

Yessin Schiegg is the CFO of Alpha Associates AG, an independent private equity, private debt and infrastructure management and consulting firm based in Zurich, Switzerland. He was previously engaged in the algorithmic trading business at Source Capital and separately in the private equity businesses at BlackRock, Swiss Reinsurance Company, and Horizon21. He was also a senior auditor at PwC, serving banks and asset managers. Yessin is a Swiss CPA, a CFA Charterholder, and has achieved the CAIA designation. He graduated from the University of St.Gallen in Switzerland, where he studied Finance.

William Mougayar

William Mougayar is an entrepreneur, angel investor, mentor to startups and an expert and analyst on startup marketing, blockchain technologies, decentralization and peer-to-peer models. He is on the Board of Directors of OB1, the OpenBazaar open source project that is pioneering peer-to-peer commerce, and a member of OMERS Ventures Board of Advisors and the founder of Startup Management. Besides having started and raised capital for three companies (Engagio, Eqentia, and CYBERManagement), his career also included HP, Cognizant, CommerceNet Canada, authoring two books on Internet business, consulting for numerous Fortune 500 companies, and being a professional speaker. William is a graduate of the University of Washington and the University of Western Ontario.

Vladislav Martynov

Vladislav Martynov is CEO and a co-founder of Yota Devices. He has twenty years of highly diversified experience in software and digital technology as a co-founder, angel investor and CEO of several highly successful start-ups. After the sale of one of his companies to Microsoft, he became a corporate executive at Microsoft HQ and ran the implementation of a global program to grow the ecosystem of developers and software partners. In 2014, Vlad was nominated by Ernst and Young for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
