While operating in the Chosin Reservoir Meckley's element was overwhelmed and he was reported missing on December 2, 1950. On March 28, 2016 it was announced by The Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) that Meckley's body had been recovered.

Memorial Bataan Death March

Jesse Baltazar, 95, a Bataan Death March survivor wipes his face during a survivor talk, March 19, 2016, a day prior to the 27th Annual White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Memorial Bataan Death March. Baltazar joined the 71st Battalion, U.S. Armed Forces Far East right after the Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor. Three days into the Bataan Death March, Baltazar escaped and joined the Filipino resistance. After being discharged from the Army in 1945, he became the first Filipino-born officer in the U.S. Air Force in 1948, retiring at the rank of Major.

Operation Red Fury

Paratroopers assigned with 1-508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, move to their loading zone as rotor wash from a UH-60 black hawk caused a dust cloud. The UH-60's are assigned to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, in support of Operation Red Fury. The 1-508th PIR will conduct an air assault into their objective. The training helped to increase the unit's interoperability between the ground and aviation units.

U.S. service members from the Defense POW/ MIA Accounting Agency, or DPAA, escort the recently disinterred remains of a service member from the U.S.S. Oklahoma, previously buried as unknown. The disinterments taking place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, HIawaii, June 8, 2015, were conducted in effort to identify the U.S. service members. The mission of DPAA is to conduct global search, recovery and laboratory operations to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation.
