Hello Jerry, I just got home from your talk at The University of Toronto. Thanks for an entertaining and educational evening.

I was the fella that asked about the recent paper from Jonathan Kipnis at the University of Virgina in regards to the discovery of meningeal lymphatic vessels that connects the brain to the immune system.

The question I REALLY wanted to ask tonight was: Can the fact that these vessels have only recently been discovered be easily explained through evolution? Could the connections have been ‘improving’ over centuries as our lifespans increase, to combat neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and dementia?

Also… science has never been able to adequately explain ‘the placebo effect’, could this also be an explanation insomuch that some people may have a better developed system of these vessels in place and are actually able to “cure” themselves in that way and we simply attach the label “placebo effect”?

I’m always thinking, but I rarely get expert opinions on those thoughts. Thanks for any time you might be able to give.

Incidentally, I enjoyed your answer to my diverted question of “what discovery would shake the foundations of religion to its core?” I’ve always said “creating life from non-life” or “finding intelligent life on another planet… particularly one with entirely different religious beliefs and practices that are nothing like those of Earth.” would be the two biggies, however religious folk would still find a way to spin it in their direction because when all is said and done, God works in mysterious ways.😉

All the best to you sir and thanks again for tonight.

    Joe
