35 died from scope infections after Olympus told execs not to warn hospitals

Don't tell - unless they ask. Thirty-five people died in the United States after contracting infections from contaminated medical scopes made by Olympus Corp. in the years after a company official told American executives not to issue widespread warnings to U.S. hospitals "about potentially deadly infections from tainted medical scopes," a new report says. That decision not to to proactively issue warnings to U.S hospitals was made despite the fact that Tokyo-based Olympus - which controls 85 percent of the American gastrointestinal scope market - was already warning European customers that a scope made by the company had a risk of contamination after two dozen infections were reported in hospitals

Donald Trump tweaks Dems as convention starts: ‘Crazy Bernie has gone crazy’

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Donald Trump gleefully seized on party turmoil at the Democratic National Convention Monday, accusing Bernie Sanders of “folding” against rival Hillary Clinton, whom he attacked for using a “rigged” system to win the nomination. In his second campaign rally since becoming officially becoming the Republican presidential nominee, Trump recapped the drama that has overtaken Democrats in recent days, including leaked emails that suggested officials at the Democratic National Committee tried to undermine Sanders during the Democratic primary.

Dallas Cowboys Bus Involved in Fatal Crash in Arizona

Four people were killed Sunday when bus carrying Dallas Cowboys staffers but no players collided with a van on a northwestern Arizona highway. The fatalities were passengers in the van, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Quentin Mehr said. But the bus occupants emerged uninjured. "All on the bus came through OK with some bumps and bruises," Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple (DAHL'-rimp-ul) said in an email. Dalrymple said the bus was only carrying members of the franchise's staff but would not say how many. There were no players on board. The two vehicles collided in the afternoon on U.S. 93, about 30 miles north of the city of Kingman, according to DPS. The crash shut down at least

    U.S. Navy's new $13B aircraft carrier can't fight

(CNN)The $13-billion USS Gerald R. Ford is already two years behind schedule, and the U.S. Navy's newest aircraft carrier is facing more delays after the Pentagon's top weapons tester concluded the ship is still not ready for combat despite expectations it would be delivered to the fleet this September. According to a June 28 memo obtained by CNN, Michael Gilmore, the Defense Department's director of operational test and evaluation, said the most expensive warship in history continues to struggle launching and recovering aircraft, moving onboard munitions, conducting air traffic control and with ship self-defense. "These four systems affect major areas of flight operations," Gilmore wrote in his report to Pentagon and Navy weapons buyers Frank Kendall and Sean Stackley.

Emails show Debbie Wasserman Schultz pressured ‘Morning Joe’ - to no avail

On May 18, "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski said Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz "should step down" because she had favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders throughout the primary. One week later, Brzezinski doubled down, saying, "My contention all along has been that [Wasserman Schultz] has been in the tank for Hillary from the get-go, and it's been quite obvious." The repetition seemed like no big deal at the time, but now hacked DNC emails show that in between Wasserman Schultz and her staff flipped out, pressuring MSNBC to make Brzezinski and partner Joe Scarborough tone down their criticism. Clearly, it didn't work. While the focus of WikiLeaks'
