    in 1799, William Dargan was born in Carlow. Dargan was a railroad engineer, & dominated Irish railroad construction in the 1850s. He funded the Great Industry Exhibition in 1853 in Dublin, & the Dargan wing of is named after him.

    in 1792 part of the Irish House of Commons was destroyed by a fire. Today, the building is home to Bank of Ireland, and also houses our Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again exhibition. This image of the building is from the Cork Examiner, 1896.
