    At the point in the workshop where a lot of the software packages we are mentioning are written by - amazing how easy to use software like mlst, abricate, shovill, prokka are - and how much easier that makes teaching microbial genomics concepts!

    Have had fun teaching microbial genomics, and introducing the work on pathogen genomics we are doing to everyone ⁦⁩ workshop. Lovely mix of researchers, clinical scientists and animal health scientists here. Just a shame it isn't longer!

    Here's a write-up of the workshop I ran for last week, using Virtual Machines. Very pleased with how the VMs worked out, & hopefully helped mobilise more of the microbiology community to analyse similar data

    2/2 I have deliberately chosen off-the-shelf freely available tools for this to show metagenomic analysis doesn't require access to a bioinformatician in a microbiome group, and command-line bioinformatics isn't as intimidating as it seems! So far so good...
