    *Lots* of Democrats — e.g., Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, Joe Biden — used to be against abortion. But the big tent has long since been taken down. Democratic platforms used to call for making abortion "safe, legal and rare." But the word "rare" was dropped years ago.

    The new laws banning abortion are "unconstitutional" only in the sense that they violate Roe v. Wade, which conjured a constitutional right to abortion out of thin air. The Supreme Court won't roll back Roe. But if it did, the "constitutional" objection would vanish.
