Simultaneous submissions are accepted, and expected—we're writers, too. But we would appreciate it if you'd state in your cover letter whether or not your submission has been simultaneously submitted, and let us know immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere, either through Submittable or by emailing us: collapsar.editorATgmail.com. 

If your work is accepted, The Collapsar asks for first serial rights and the right to keep your work in our archives. All rights revert to the author upon publication. In any future republications, acknowledgement is appreciated.

Nonfiction
Submit
Essays: personal, critical, memoir, or a mashup of all three. Length is up to you, and although we do tend to prefer work that is a minimum of a thousand words, shorter pieces will still be considered. Creative criticism welcome, collage welcome.

Some nonfiction writers we love, dead and alive:  Eula Bliss, Te-Nehisi Coates, Jia Tolentino, Charles D'Ambrosio, Leslie Jaminson, James Baldwin, E.B. White, Annie Dillard, David Shields, Rob Sheffield, Joan Didion. 

Submit only one piece at a time. Multiple submissions will be discarded unread. 

Double space, Times New Roman, 12-point font preferred.
Poetry
Submit
All lengths, all styles, up to six poems and about 20 total pages of work. Please single space lines. 
Fiction
Submit

We're open to very short stories and very long short stories. If you compel us to keep reading--well, we'll keep reading. It's that simple.

Book Reviews

Send us your pitches and reviews here! If you've already written a review, send it our way. You're welcome to send us reviews, though you might be better off sending a pitch or short query--telling us what you want to write about, how you're going to write about it, and a brief description of your credentials--to see if we're already covering the media you want to review. In the subject field of the pitch, please be sure to specify if you're submitting a PITCH or an ESSAY/REVIEW. Also, specify the media (ie., "PITCH-BOOK REVIEW-<book title>").

ALSO: Feel free to defy the traditional book review in any way you see fit. Books covered need not necessarily be current. For reference, we were big fans of the 25-points reviews that used to appear in HTML Giant back in the day, and the hopelessly out-of-date ones that appear in The Believer. 
Pop Culture

Send us your pop-culture related pitches, essays, and reviews here! We're looking primarily for essays about popular culture (up to 2,000 words) and reviews (up to 1000 words) of albums, movies, shows, etc. If you have a piece written, send it our way. If you have an idea but haven't written it yet, send us a pitch. You're also welcome to send us reviews, though you might be better off sending a pitch or short query--telling us what you want to write about, how you're going to write about it, and a brief description of your credentials--to see if we're already covering the media you want to review.
