Italy: Arrigoni protects soft fruit orchards

"2016 was another good year for Gruppo Arrigoni in the European, North African and Central and South American markets," reports CEO Paolo Arrigoni. 

People seem to be particularly interested in soft fruit, so cultivated areas have increased in the past few years. There are currently over 90 thousand hectares of blueberry crops worldwide and the trend is growing.

But soft fruit is very sensitive to extreme environmental conditions such as frost, high temperatures, hail, heavy summer rain and wind. Such events can compromise yields, shelf-life and even the nutritional value of fruits. In addition, the number of diseases and harmful insects (Drosophila suzukii) that can damage soft fruit is increasing and the tools available to solve these problems do not evolve with the same speed. 

Arrigoni's expert team, in cooperation with berry producers from all over the world, has developed a series of high-tech fabrics to guarantee profits, improve fruit quality and reduce environmental impact.
