Improvements to the Report Feature by StringerBell5 in modnews

[–]honestbleeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm excited about these developments, but I'm wondering if it will ever be possible to accept free-form reporting but WITHOUT anonymity.

I dont' mind free form reports, the problem is they're abused by people quite often. I'd rather be able to allow them but NOT allow anonymity if people choose to write free form text - as the anonymity is what makes it a trolling tool.

Any possibility of that happening?

Automatic backups asking for permission every time I load reddit? by bassgoonist in Enhancement

[–]honestbleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, with multiple accounts this might be expected behavior because RES may not know which to use... I'm not sure if there's a way for us to get back / save "which" account you picked, I'll have to ask the team as I didn't work on this feature!

Sounds like this might have something to do with having multiple accounts. Do you have multiple accounts?

snag.gy support for image expansion? by cosmitz in Enhancement

[–]honestbleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it seems the snag.gy support we already had is broken. not sure why, but it seems that maybe snag.gy is blocking externally loaded images, which means we might need to remove support.

that's just a running theory from 60 seconds of digging, though, so we'll need to investigate more!

Can we get a guide on how to speed up/ reduce lag on the S8s. by GeoResearchRedditor in GalaxyS8

in 2-3 years I've not had facebook be a significant detractor of battery life. it's honestly fine.

I don't give it access to location, though, maybe that makes a difference?

RES crashing Google Chrome by Falklandia in RESissues

[–]honestbleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, that's really unusual... with 2.5+ million users we've never seen something like that before. Certainly I'm not trying to dismiss it, but I wonder if you have something unique going on.

is it possible it's a conflict with RES and another extension that you run? I use uBlock and I can't fathom it'd be Pocket... I don't know what Certisign is and/or any others you might run though?

Police just don't respond quickly or care much about monitored alarm systems anymore.

This really varies based on where you are.

I'm in Chicago, and we had a false alarm with out simplisafe system while out of the house and the cops were there within minutes.

I'm not saying you might not be right as a generalization, but I think there's value in my monitored setup (and I can cancel the monitoring at any time and self-monitor if I want) based on the response time from that false alarm.

Life with Bixby is equal parts futuristic and frustrating by dineshkandula in Android

[–]honestbleeps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there's virtually nothing to "put up with", and I've probably accidentally tapped that button like... 6 times in the several months I've had it... it's not even that intrusive when I do, it's so easy to dismiss because I've never done the "set up bixby" process, so "bixby" never shows up on my phone - just a screen offering to set it up in the rare instances where I accidentally hit that button - I dismiss it easily/quickly.

Facebook and snapchat are a no no

This is an outdated view, at least for Facebook. There was definitely a period of time where Facebook was a resource hog, but that's long gone.

My battery life is great and I use Facebook (don't have Snapchat, though)... this is true for many people.

You may have other reasons to not want to use one or both of those apps, but performance with Facebook is just fine.

Brian Campbell has retired. by krisk1759 in hockey

[–]honestbleeps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason it's a tough crowd around here, in my opinion, is that all of the beat writers around here have been trash for years.

They love a scapegoat story, and they're willing to re-write it every single game/week/month/year. The fans lap it up and it creates a vicious cycle of fans who are ignorant to how any given sport really works... they just want someone to bitch about at the water cooler...

Crawford took nearly as much crap as Huet for quite some time. It took him winning a second cup just for fans to SORT of lay off on him. I fully believe the media is a large reason why.

I've never hated a fanbase more than my own when they shat all over Huet.

They booed him at the Stanley Cup VICTORY parade when his name was announced.

He was coming off of an all-star worthy year when the Blackhawks signed him. He didn't fare as well as expected with the hawks, but he was a consummate professional about everything and the fanbase and the media treated him like utter garbage.

Chicagoan here. Stop signs and lights are rarely obeyed by cyclists here.

I'm shocked incidents like this video aren't caught far more often, to be honest.

I support cars sharing the road better and treating cyclists with respect, but it's gotta go both ways.

your'e using firefox, which doesn't allow us to include the javascript from twitter that renders images in twitter expandos.

it's not broken, it's just not supported in Firefox. Works in all other browsers.

there is a greasemonkey script that hacks around this, if you use greasemonkey.

That's likely what's happening again. It resulted in ... many profane messages and emails to me... here's hoping this isn't another one of those days... sigh
