Seasonal waterfall on an island
Principe
This is only the very lowest part of a tall and impressive waterfall on the island of Principe.
This is shot in the rainy season and thus there was plenty of water flowing, but as this is a small island this flow is but a trickle if any at all during the dryer months. I suspect this pool is just a puddle then.
The only way to get a shot of the entire waterfall and the sheer cliff is from the ocean, that is how dense the forest is and how rugged the terrain is. Yet this is the waterfall with the easiest access.
What I love about free falling water like this is how the water is swaying and undulating in the air, falling to the ground in an unpredictable fashion (here you see it is swaying to the left). Not to mention the spray being pushed outward in a wind generated by the motion of the falling water.
