Mike Pompeo, the newly-confirmed director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency, has pledged to "aggressively seek to ensure we have the most effective programs for identifying insider threats" in a chilling statement of intent to US senators.

Pompeo's statement is a sign that the new director intends to pursue the same anti-leaks policies that discourage whistleblowing as were enforced by the previous administration under President Obama.

Ethical Banking

Monday, 23 January, 2017 - 22:45

HSBC whistleblower 'Mr Ethical' has won his hard, drawn-out, 13-year-long battle against his former employer.

Four million pounds in compensation is due to be split between 6,700 people who had been forced to pay unreasonable debt collection charges.

David A Elston, Pirate Party Spokesperson, said:

“It’s not every day that someone takes on a big bank and wins. Just over a year ago, Nicholas Wilson (or as he has come to be known, 'Mr Ethical') told me, and the hosts of Anon UK Radio, about the gruelling experience he had been through.

President Obama commutes Manning's sentence after dealing blow to privacy

Tuesday, 17 January, 2017 - 22:15

As one of the final acts of his final term as Commander-in-Chief, President Obama announced today that he would be commuting Chelsea Manning's sentence, bringing forward her release following a 35-year sentence from 2045 to May 17th this year, as well as organising for the responsibility of her incarceration to no longer sit under the purview of the Department of Defence. Whilst incarcerated by the department, Chelsea has been prevented from seeing any surgeons to discuss sexual reassignment, and is still held to male military standards.

UK ISPs to start sending Pirates letters

Wednesday, 11 January, 2017 - 23:00

A group of UK ISPs will soon send written warnings to account holders associated with IPs suspected of accessing illegally shared files. The only ISPs to have publicly agreed to the Voluntary Copyright Alert Programme, the active portion of the Creative Content UK initiative from BPI, so far are the big four, namely Sky, BT, Virgin Media and TalkTalk. It is unclear if their subsidiary companies (such as BT's Plusnet) are included, and only Virgin Media has gone into any detail as to how the process will work.

Publications forced to join state-approved regulator

Tuesday, 10 January, 2017 - 18:45

First the Snoopers Charter sought to kill privacy, then the DE Bill plans to remove our freedom to choose which publications we want to expose ourselves to, but now the Conservatives are going to the source with the activation of section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013.

Section 40 was in response to the Leveson Inquiry, which recommended legal remedies should be more easily available to the public.

In principle, this is a good idea, however the Act is terribly worded.
