I'm not saying non-traditional dashboards don't/can't efficiently represent the analysis and storytelling. But I will argue that we see non-traditional dashboards more for the sake of technical achievement, then efficient design.

That's the issue though, "Design" is the representation of analysis and storytelling, not the other way around, and certainly not separate. A technical design is meaningless if it doesn't efficiently represent the analysis and storytelling.

There is a distinct difference between being "good" at Tableau (or any tool) and being good at data analysis/visualization. A person can be an expert at Tableau, from a technical perspective, and be a bad analyst. Those skills are not tied to each other.

Problem is, it shouldn't be that way. Correcting the data models on the backend can take time, but it's usually saved in Tableau. Especially when you consider scale/flexibility.
