It's also worth saying that Churchill saw a flawed Europe(to put it mildly) and set out to change it. He didn't just run away and call it someone else's problem. Complete opposite of what the UK is doing now.

Much bleating about being denied access to something ‘we help’ build re Galileo sat-nav procurement. Tragic in practice, this is what being out of the world’s biggest trade market looks like.

Compare this headline with what Grieve said only two days earlier - "The irrationality of the debate on the details of brexit is truly chilling, you open your newspaper and you discover that you are about to prevent Brexit..."

I don’t think giving up on her principles for some votes is in her nature - more power to her.

Hey , why are you not inviting to balance this? It's ridiculous that you invite someone on who withheld critical information on Russian involvement in Brexit and not the journalist who actually forced the issue to go public

You can employ more civil servants, but it was my understanding that the issue is with the finite number of civil servants with a high level of experience & skill. Gus O'Donnell has said most of these would be working on Brexit, which would make progress in other areas slower.

Really enjoyed your question yesterday re Sir Cash. But I don't understand how comprehensive national reform is possible when the Brexit process(beyond actual exit re trade etc.,) will continue to occupy so much of the government and civil service's time, attention and energy.

It was my interpretation that the Brexit process was actually using up a lot of the people/time/energy that could be dedicated to tasks like this, in terms of what the civil service is working on etc.

Russia orchestrated an attempted assassination with a chemical weapon on the soil of the United Kingdom, our most powerful ally. Shortly thereafter, Trump has labeled Britain a national security threat while calling to reward Russia with renewed international legitimacy.

You would have to jump to everyone else's tune to get agreements with the Commonwealth too. Visas for trade of goods with India, for example.

Salvini is gaining on him in the polls, but it still isn't a one man story, and certainly wasn't one at the time of the election. I think Bannon is being selective because of his political inclinations, beyond the establishment vs populist dichotomy.

Interesting that Bannon doesn't mention Di Miao once, despite Di Miao winning more of the Italian vote than Salvini, who Bannon explicitly mentions several times.

Riiiiight... Swedish Democrats are polling at 20%, hardly a majority for Swexit! Not sure about the EU creating socialist countries in order to 'collpase' them... Enjoy the rest of your day though.

I don't think you've got anything right here. The EU didn't make it a socialist country, Sweden doesn't want to leave the EU, and any leaflets that have been distributed aren't prepping for civil war. Why did you claim Sweden is capitalist, and then the EU made it socialist?

I think 'socially-inclined democracy' is a pretty fair description of the countries he mentioned. Yes they are capitalist, but with ambitious and effective social programs that are the envy of pretty much every other capitalist country globally.

Hi Femi, interested in your thoughts on what’s happening in the EU beyond Brexit(Italy, Greece etc). Looks like if we do remain we will have to come back swinging for eurozone reform?

Wonderful to join Finsbury Park Mosque for this evening's Iftar. Worshippers who have been fasting during Ramadan invite friends of all faiths and none to share a meal at sunset. Tonight’s gathering was huge, and I'm very proud to see my community celebrating its diversity.
