If a book isn't meant to be memorable, and if it doesn't understand or question the world we live in, I'd honestly question what the fuck anybody is doing writing that book. That's just how I feel. Not saying all books need to be DEEP deep; but they all need depth.

I ate it this one time, and it was very tasty. Sweeter than I'm used to, mind you. So all in all I would say 7/10 and would eat again.

If it isn't, what's it speaking to? Does the author deny that the act of writing is political in itself? Can you imagine not reading anything unless it felt like the political subtext was nonexistent? That's some life.

There's an interview with a very popular author in the NYT this week where he says he doesn't want to read anything political. And that's bizarre to me. Because surely all writing is political? And if it isn't, I can only assume it's godawful.

Thank god all those classic SF authors he loves didn't write anything political, right? 😐

"I was pretty sexy, I have to admit" is the best line in all of writing, and I won't hear a bad word about it.

Such first-person narrative skill. Such insight. Such understanding of what it is to be a girl (not woman).

My favourite real quotes from the book (as detailed in the AV Club's review - I don't have time to read this shit all the way through): pic.twitter.com/70DrViFQpv

I think if somebody's writing a book in 2017 that doesn't speak to our world in some way, they're both an idiot and pretty fucking ignorant.

He has doubled down. His female protagonist looks at herself in the mirror and thinks how hot she looks. You know, LIKE ALL WOMEN DO ALL THE TIME.

Yeeeesh. I tell you what I'm not surprised about, having read a chunk of his new novel: how few female writers he reads. 😐

Russell Howard is shocked that there is a booklet telling white people how to behave towards “ethnic minorities” in the workplace.
