when Damascus plays the unity card, SDF is at a disadvantage + US team should NOT assume Saudis understand Syrian tribal/social elements very well or that the local Syrians would initially view them sympathetically. Damascus has some good cards too, not just the USA/SDF/KSA.

US needs 2 decide its medium- & long-term goals w/ Iran. If medium-term goal is 2 deepen Iran's isolation, need 2 be patient til Iran overplays its hand & then exploit that diplomatically to build coalition to defend against, deter Iran --not just rely on US one-off airstrikes.
