Do yourself a favor and read this thread by my fabulous and oh so wicked smart colleague and friend Katrina Mulligan. If you’re trying to puzzle out the criteria that should apply when deciding whether Assange is a criminal or a hero, here’s your answer... 👇 twitter.com/NatSecMulligan…

No argument from me on that score. That’s why J.M.’s book on Extremism (MIT Press) should feature as part of the syllabus of any terrorism focused course going forward. It’s on mine...

Terrorism tied to far right ideologies is not repeat not “the same” as the jihadist strain of terror. Lots of differences. But we’d be crazy not to learn lessons from our experience with the latter as we struggle to respond to the current uptick in the former.

From afar, response of NZ government and civil society to Christhurch terror attack has been phenomenal. Citizens celebrating cultural diversity - locking arms to oppose hate. PM leading with empathy, strength and resolve, while pursuing changes in law/policy. Resilience defined.

👇 Header on this piece says it will take 14 minutes to read. Take the time. Nothing to hate or fear or despise here. Just people living their lives. Next time a leader or public voice paints a picture of an entire category of people as somehow “other”,’ remember you read this. twitter.com/NicholasRasmu1…

Our Kiwi Muslim brothers and sisters have suffered unspeakable tragedy at the hands of a terrorist driven by bigotry, intolerance and fear. Confronting hate-based extremism - whatever form it takes - is a whole of government and whole of society challenge. All of us must step up.

Commentary on today’s SSCI hearing has rightly highlighted divergence between POTUS and his own team on key threats. The more consequential/enduring outcome: Americans saw once again how well served they are by IC leaders who are capable, serious and above all, truth tellers.

I suspect @rcallimachi’s analysis comes as no surprise to the intelligence, law enforcement and military professionals who keep us safe. They remain clear-eyed about what has been achieved in the ISIS campaign as well as about what remains to be done. Political leaders take heed. twitter.com/VivianHYee/sta…

As published on @just_security , My take on the so-called terrorism crisis at the southern border justsecurity.org/62156/terroris…. Bottom line -- there is no crisis...and anyone who says there is probably trying to mislead or scare the American people.
